    He's not an idiot. But he didn't think through his OPSEC. I mean, thumbing his nose at the US entertainment industry, and choosing to live in one of the Five Eyes :eek: Seriously o_O

    Damn. And I worry that he's doomed. Somewhere in the Middle East or Southeast Asia would have been a wiser choice.

    It will create a very interesting precedent.

    Civil and criminal are very different processes.

    In Australia we won the war with a finding against applications to ISPs to provide details on people conducting illegal downloads. So now it is legislated for ISPs to block torrenting sites; which is easy to bypass as simply as using Google DNS settings.

    Back to NZ, these things are usually civil, but a higher court will decide if the elements are satisfied for criminal fraud.

    It is unlikely…

    New Zealand economy is stable and regulated with a tax system more advantadgeous than other western countries.

    The safest bet for Kim Dotcom, given his business, would have been staying well hidden.

    But hey, just my $0.02 as a hobbyist ;)
