Adobe is decommissioning the download links at the software distribution page on March 1, so I tried the "get adobe" web page at the link provided. Went through the process and it installed the plugin version but not Active-X. Now a couple of questions: 1. Does anyone know if it's supposed to install both? There was nothing in the download process that lets you choose one or both. 2. If not, how do you get Active-X? Thanks.
For Firefox, Flash is updating automatically through its own updater in Windows 7 and 10. Also for IE 11 in Windows 7.
Ahh, a little searching and I found it. ActiveX has it's own page. I can post the link if anyone needs it, otherwise problem solved. I've been getting the individual .exe installers for years, never needed to mess with online installers, kinda sucks.
The links I have aren't direct downloads, they're the official Flash web pages. I thought that was pretty clear.
allizomeniz, if these official Flash web pages have download links that are different than http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer, we'll have no choice but to remove those page links from a post, as per Adobe's Legal Dept. notice to Wilders. We are making that future action clear as well.
activex is for internet explorer and on windows 10 also for edge. since windows 8 there is no option to install the activex component manually, unless its a beta or debugger version, but that is not made for folks. plugin is needed in common for firefox and some older NPAPI browsers like Opera 12 (not recommended). hint: NPAPI will be removed in firefox and other browsers this year (2016) https://www.chromium.org/developers/npapi-deprecation https://blog.mozilla.org/futurereleases/2015/10/08/npapi-plugins-in-firefox/ chrome has its build in pepperflash (PPAPI) if you need flash player as plugin as offline installer go https://get.adobe.com/de/flashplayer/ and select "... for other computer" left side and on next page select your choice (ActiveX, PPAPI, NPAPI) the old way - use google to find the distribution site, and load from there. it is still possible but adobe will lock it the next months for the public. after locking only available with adobe id and as developper. anyway the adobe flash updater is working fine, maybe you get make a sniffer grab the links from it
Okay, I tried the page that's supposed to be for ActiveX but it installed the plugin version! (Vista) So I tried the "Check Now" option from the Flash Control Panel utility and it redirected to an Adobe download page but it's only showing the Plugin Version is out of date, but my ActiveX version is also out of date. How are you supposed to get ActiveX without auto updating?? Does anyone know?
Figured it out finally. You have to go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer in Internet Explorer then it checks for ActiveX. I've never longed more for the day this menace goes extinct than I do right now.
The standard download page has always been horrible for me, but it seems like it now detects which browser you're running. But you can also select the NPAPI plugin for Opera or Firefox manually.
