I understand that both Firefox (64-bit) and Cyberfox (64-bit) use the same profile, but what I don't understand is whether you can have both installed together on one machine. Any thoughts or advice welcome. Sorry if this is a newbie question. Thanks.
Yes you can as I have both installed and Cyberfox is awesome and installs in it's own Folder Cyberfox! Cheers, TH
Thanks Triple H. This might be old information but it does bother me a little. http://www.thewindowsclub.com/cyberfox-browser-review Perhaps they've got on top of that now? Do you need to install the separate updater, or check for updates from their site? I mean you can't just check from within Cyberfox for updates?
If you setup SYNC it will copy all extensions and bookmarks to Cyberfox but it doesn't do anything but work great or I wouldn't have it on my 2 laptops. Also when there is a new update it will let you know to go download the new version and just install over top. Sometimes I have both open at the same time.....!
Interesting. I just downloaded the portable version. Cyberfox 43.0.2 (64-bit) = 49.6MB Cyberfox Portable 43.0.2 (64-bit) = 50.1MB ... Not that that is a bad thing, just interesting. If I decide to install Cyberfox I would want to use the same bookmarks and add-ons / extensions so copying my Profile makes sense. I'm not interested in having an account with Mozilla so won't be using the 'Sync' feature.
If you have a Firefox profile, just copy it to the Cyberfox Data folder and rename it Profile - it won't work with that funky unique folder name Moz uses. Well, at least the last time I tried it a while back. Whenever a new Cyberfox portable version is released, I rename the CyberfoxPortable folder, extract the new one and copy the Profile over to it. Any problems? No problem... you still have the previous one, just name the folder to CyberfoxPortable again (not that I've ever had a problem with Cyberfox). Been doing that method with Firefox ever since Haller built the portable, what... 10 years ago? But for over two years now I've been using Cyberfox after dumping Palemoon and I'll never go back to Firefox. There's also a way to open multiple Cyberfox instances with different profiles. It involves some folder building and .ini work. Portables rock. They're so easy to bend to your will. And fix.
I decided to install Cyberfox and so far all is well. I used their Profile Buddy and all bookmarks and extensions were successfully transferred across from Firefox (except of course Norton Identity Safe), even though Norton quarantined two 'threats', imageres.dll and cini.dll were both detected as WS.Reputation.1. I don't know what they do but the profile transferred successfully anyway, as far as I know, without them.
I have never tried cyberfox.I currently use pale moon. There is a known caveat in regard to installing pale moon alongside firefox,Notably if pale moon is for some reason uninstalled it takes the firefox profile folder with it. Dont know if this occurs with cyberfox.
So, what else has moved over for you lately for the "new"? Carburetors? I've been extolling the features of Cyberfox here for quite some time. Maybe now a 4-digit post count member might have an impact on the acceptance of its quality. Cyberfox (installed or portable) is more Mozilla than Firefox is. FYIs for all: (This is not about cross-device anything or syncing thereof. It's about this portable app and not about all this that and the other things of the browsing experience.) Portable CF doesn't know or care about any other browser you might have installed. The Profile folder is 100% transportable from one CyberfoxPortable to another. I back mine up on a regular basis. I keep an encrypted zip in the cloud. I can extract a CF portable on some one else's system (like mother-in-law's Vista laptop with the 18 toolbars when visiting teh relatives), pull my Profile down, dump it in the Data folder and Web away. And later securely delete the whole thing. Before installing or updating a new extension, I copy the Profile folder elsewhere. If I don't like it or the update is problematic, I still have the previous Profile folder. If all is OK, I just copy the folder to my two other systems. When there's a new version of CF and I determine all is well (also see #9 above), I zip the whole CyberfoxPortable folder for extracting it on my other two systems. Takes about five minutes all within the security of my LAN. Moving the Profile folder out of the Data folder and starting CF will build a fresh new default Profile folder to play with. When you're done, delete it and move yours back in again. Of course, all this moving/copying/zipping must be done when CF is closed. And in case you missed it, all this is for the P-O-R-T-A-B-L-E version.
