I'm new here and a new user to DC-15 after running out of patience with A*****s. I've read the guide and searched the forum and I'm fairly happy that I understand, but I'd be grateful for confirmation that I am doing the right thing.
I have OS (Win 7 Pro) and applications on an SSD and all data on spinning discs. My aim is for disaster recovery in the event of the SSD failing - I know it's solid state and they "never" fail but I've had this happen once so I'm now doubly cautious.
I have another SSD and have used the Copy Hard Disk function to copy both Drive C (OS and Apps) and the Windows System Recovery partition to this disk. I am assuming that if I switch SSDs my PC will boot as it did on the day of the copy - is that right?
A second question regards the Migrate OS function - does this copy the OS only and ignore other files such as applications which may be on the drive or have I misunderstood?
Sorry these are such basic questions but until I am clear in my understanding I can't be sure of my future security.
Thanks in advance and to all who read may I wish a successful year ahead.
    David

Installed apps are part of an OS.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you mean.

Any program that you installed to the default location which "normally" is your OS will be included. Some programs store the data as well with it some don't and some allow one to store data elsewhere.

So if you restore, migrate, etc. all your programs installed will be included.

Thanks, I assume that includes all the hidden stuff like the registry files.

All included with an OS, without a registry, it won't run.

Yes, I know it won't run without the registry but are the registry files and components copied to the new SSD - in other words will the copy I have made be a true replacement (bootable) of the original?

Yes, if you have copied the whole disk. I'm not using Paragon Drive Copy at the moment, but it's similar to Macrium Reflect. When I load MR it shows a number of partitions in addition to C:\ that exist on the primary drive. To make sure the drive is bootable copy/image all of it, not just C:\

Thanks, Victek, as I said, I've copied all of the C: drive (boot and applications) drive along with that partition which Win 7 holds for recovery. I was fairly happy that the registry etc would be copied too and was just seeking confirmation from those with more experience than I have with Drive Copy.

For absolute peace of mind you could get an inexpensive mechanical hard drive to restore the image to. Then make it the boot drive in the computer (disconnect the SSD) and see if it works.
