I got an email from ZenMate with a three month premium offer.I got the key but do not see where to download it. When I try it says this code has been used Has anyone used it and think it trustworthy?
Use a VPN with different IP and get as many as you want. then add them to your account to have several years license. For example if you get 8 three month licence and add to your zenmate account, you can get 2 years worth.
It's a browser plugin proxy, not a true VPN. No way it can hide your IP effectively but it will get around some geoblocking. No difference in a premium account for trustworthness, just more locations.
it does effectively shields you. I have it and tried using check2ip and dns leak test and all passed with flying colours. You are annonomous. By the way I use chrome with webrtc disabled.
They mention "Windows" too. If its a browser plugin proxy then how does it works for "Windows" i.e programs & all?
There is no way a browser plugin is going to function as a full on VPN. It can't be trusted or relied upon to hide your ip consistently. The only way that can be done is to create a VPN tunnel at the OS or router level. There have been several threads about Zenmate. Here is one I started last year that links to others. https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/zenmate-vpn-plugin-for-chromium-browsers.367608/#post-2404080
zenmate is nolonger a browser only. For the premium members can get zenmate desktop shield and install it on all devices and it is a standalone VPN like others protecting all your connection. Go down in this link and see they have it for all OP systems desktop version. So signup with the 3 month free and get the desktop version https://zenmate.com/premium/
Is the desktop version new & beta or stable? I have installed browser extension on Firefox & no prob. But when I install browser extension on Chrome I get Win 10 notification that Zenmate background process added & will run even after Chrome is closed, background process for browser extension? But when I check taskmanager there was no Zenmate background process?
its in beta for windows but non beta for other OP. I tested it on windows 8.1 and it requires net-framework 3.5 and 3. On windows 10 is not compatible yet as I got error trying to install it.
Not really worth messing with then. If it can't be used with generic OpenVPN software, I wouldn't bother with it. Most of the custom client software I have tried for Windows has had some issue. It is either bloated or unreliable in some way or conflicts with something else in the system.
I do not know if openvpn can be used or not. It may be able. My issue was I could not install it to find out.
If there is Linux support on the website and you can download .ovpn files for Linux, you can use the .ovpn file with OpenVPN for Windows. I've had several free VPN subscriptions that let me do this.
For now I am using the browser perimum version only. gave me more servers and also offers smart location, malware blocking and tracking protection too.
Why does Zenmate browser extension for Chrome adds background service? You can see in TaskManager - Startup Win 10 64
