AOL's new Shield Browser is a rebranded Google Chrome browser.

    According to the website:

Browsing protection for the things you do every day
    • Anti-keylogging technology provides real-time encryption that hides what you enter on your keyboard from hackers.
    • Screen grab protection can stop malware from taking pictures of your monitor as you enter sensitive data.
    • Stop scam websites from loading so you don’t get tricked into revealing personal details

    Can be downloaded here:

Interesting, so they have managed to integrate anti-keylogging into Chrome?

Its a secure Chrome browser designed for shopping and financial transactions over the Internet.

It stops MITM and other hacking attacks when you visit a bank site or enter personal info.

Best thing about it its free.

USA still the best. But barely.
Home page says it's based on Chromium not Chrome which could be better depending.

    "About Shield
Shield is a free product based on the Chromium project making it safe and fast."

Windows only too bad. I wonder if they just integrated certain extensions into the mix?

Are you using it? If so can you check if there are extensions installed by default?

    So how is chrome insecure.
This seems to imply that chrome is not secure for financial transactions. If people are using a internet security suite on windows then these transactions should be secure.

The problem with most Chrome or Chromium clones is that they are behind in versions. From the malware tips thread it's at 46 and stable Chrome is at 47. Not really that bad considering some are 2-3 versions behind.

The up to date Chrome/Chromium is about as secure as you can get with the right extensions.

AOL making a play to get more traffic on their products now that Big Poppa is Verizon.

I wonder if protection is offered by some third party tool, or if it's designed as a "safe browser". But even safe browsers are usually controlled by some AV with driver. I must say it's an interesting concept, I wonder if others, like Chrome, Opera and Vivaldi will follow. It all depends on the design I guess.

So, I installed AOL Shield browser. It sets AOL as its home page and also default search engine. It is possible afterward to go into settings and change the default home page and new tab page, but there are no options for configuring search engines. Also the key logger protection in AOL Shield unfortunately conflicts with the keystroke encryption feature of HitmanPro.Alert. With HMPA protecting AOL Shield all keyboard input is hopelessly scrambled. It's not possible to turn off this feature in AOL Shield. Removing AOL Shield from HMPA's browser protection solves the problem, however I would rather have my browsers protected by HMPA, so I uninstalled it.

Edit: Note that the browser installs with no extensions; the security features are hardwired and cannot be adjusted, however it does support extensions.

Just what I thought, so they basically integrated SentryBay's tech.

I can imagine that it will most likely also conflict with HMPA's Safe Banking feature, since it basically does the same.

    AOL is still alive? lol
at least i only can repeat that everyone will get a piece of the whole cake.
a "secure browser" sounds terrific - but it always have disadvantages - either as written or pointed out.
but best from my view is still a browser from 1st party - from developper itself.
its not ok to let people have a product which is maintained in the first line.
"doh, you use aol browser - so ask aol"
maybe it behave like chrome in most conditions but not at all.

It supports Google Chrome extensions and apps.

As a hardened browser, you don't need third party AKL applications, since its built-in.

Extensions are not installed by default. They can be installed from the Google Chrome Store and you can customize your most used extensions.
