Tried them. I just gives you the free version. I don't remember, do you download the free, and the key upgrades.

I just tried again, this time in shadow mode. Even if you try to disable the software updater right away, it's already at work before you get there.
The Heimdal Pro page says the new version is compatible with XP and 7. It's safe to assume, then, that it's also compatible with Vista which is not listed specifically?
I can't believe just how bad this new version is; the majority of adware programmes behave a lot better than this and don't dump as many unwanted programmes onto the system unannounced. It's unacceptable coming from a security company, too. As well as that, the new programme interface is horrible; pale colours and tiny text make for a difficult and unpleasant experience. No thanks, Heimdal. I'll pass on this.
I wonder why Heimdal pulled out the open beta testing, now they (and us) have to deal with this terrible piece of software.
I am assuming the version 1 will run until our licenses expire. Any replacement ideas for the dns part of this.
I have a Pro license. I am awaiting a response from support on how to upgrade, but judging from comments above, rather not. Not really interested in the software updater part. Covered by SUMo, etc. Liked the idea of the DNS, network traffic analysis parts though. Pity if this product has headed south. I assumed Heimdal were a reputable company, as they seemed to target mainly business. If they had open beta tested, these issues would have come out.
Contacted support at heimdalsecurity.com They replied 'We will do it manually for you is you tell us your actual license.' But I want to know if switching off 'Enable patching of software' in current version is taken through to 2.0 first (assuming it auto updates?), after reading some of the comments above.
You'll have to uninstall v1 and then install v2. When I tried to 'upgrade' from v1 I ended up with a version of v2 that wanted a reg key to continue installation. Meanwhile, in the background...
Decided to test for myself. Did it in a VM so I could deal with it if I didn't like it. When I installled V2 I left ERP in alert mode. Install went fine. It immediately tried to upgrade Firefox, which I blocked. Once installed I went to the software updates, and you can completely turn it off, or just turn off those things you don't want. So once by you can control all this. Other than that I like it, so the real issue is what happens to my 6 months remaining on V1. Pete
I just went ahead and bought a new license. Also coupon vaccine still gives a sizable discount off list price I really like the new version. Kudos to Heimdal
Just heard back from Heimdal. They sent me all I need to upgrade my current license to V2, and it runs until expiry. I am going for it as I kinda like V2. One thing that helps the install and avoid the upgrade right after install is a good Anti Executable, to block the installs until you can set it up. Worked fine here. I agree Kudos to Heimdal. Pete
So you install software that updates your software and install additional software to stop the software updater from updating software. This forum is pure comedy gold sometimes. Muppet consumerism at its worst .
Yes I also got a new key for 2.0, and tried it after a Macrium image. But my problem is this: Unfortunately it is not usable for me, and I can confirm the problem that some others have also reported. The problem is that 2.0 (with NVT ERP set to alert), and with Patching set to OFF updates my Firefox 32-bit (which is up to date) and also Chrome but changes that from 64-bit to 32-bit (which I don't want). Surely this is a bug. The previous version had a scan and a patch option which is preferable. With Patching set to OFF in 2.0, the individual programs (23) are greyed out, for me anyway, and cannot be unticked. And if one sets it to ON, it will start patching these immediately. I have reverted back to 1.0 until this issue is resolved.
Especially if you don't understand the issues. The problem is V2, has a big list of stuff it automatically updates, most of which I don't want. And it does this before you can get to the settings page. But by using ERP which is already installed, one can block the updates until you can get to V2 settings and turn off the updates you don't want. Not comedy, just understanding the interactions and making it work to do the job.
DId you untick the programs you don't want updated. That seems to work. The other does sound like a bug and is worth reporting.
I understand the issue perfectly, because I was the one who reported it here first and I also said that you cannot stop it in time on your own before it does the installations. Of course I acknowledge that programs like NVT ERP or AppGuard might be a solution to prevent this. My point is, the program is messing up your system and you need additional software to stop it from doing so. If you don't use Heimdal, then you don't need the additional software.
Well actually I already use ERP as a standard bearer, so it was easy to solve the problem. Yes I agree their implementation wasn't good, but the software once installed and setup is not messing with my system in anyway.
Okay as an update. There is a FF update, now to 43. With it unchecked in V2, it left me alone. I update manually
I went to look up ERP and found a 196-page thread on it. I'm already following this thread here and the two HitmanPro/Alert threads, plus occasional forays into Norton and others. So instead I'll hold off on upgrading Heimdal Pro until they fix that "immediate software updating" issue.
I had NVT ERP on alert, but the problem was that I wasn't able to untick any programs, with patching set to off. I did report it and got a prompt reply from support (is it OK to post PM here?): Indeed, you are right and we know about all these problems. Our developers are working as we speak to solve all this issues. We have just released this new app and like all the apps that are just released, it has some bug, that we hope to solve as soon as possible. We will launch updates weekly for this version in order to have a stabile version, until then, it's your call if you want to use the new one or the old one. I don't know how we'll know about new releases though, I don't see a release history page on their website. Pity Andra left Wilders ...
