Hi about the power settings , i have noticed that w10 ,8 and 7 come with a balanced settings useful for a laptop , but i'm wondering how their impact on a desktop for example does minimum processor state set %5 ,system cooling policy active and max cpu set %100 make a difference (performance for example of a program like photoshop) compared to minimum processor state set %100 ,system cooling policy active ,and max cpu set %100 ? or pci express settings (i guess it's related to gpu) make a difference in the performance of program like photoshop may i know what settings do you use for your desktop and laptop ? thanks
I run maximum performance always on my laptop. When I run balanced, it doesn't "save" much battery. About the cooling, I use a Enermax laptop dock with speakers. It has a 120m fan on the bottom. You can feel the performance loss with balanced enabled. Especially when using programs like Photoshop. But that is for me as an opinion. It might be different for someone else.
I hadn't seen any observable difference between balanced and performance while i was using Windows. But you can see the difference between them by using hwinfo software. You can see performance uses cpu more aggressively. I also don't see any difference in GNU/Linux.
Always high performance on my fast laptop. Battery power lasts at least 4-5 hours on high performance with the battery charged to 80%, more than I ever need...
hi thanks but did you change power setting and and start to edit or do you need to reboot ? and about pci settings?
I have all my laptops set to Maximum Performance. As to how much better my systems run using this profile rather than Balanced, I don't know as I've never done any comparsions. I just set them to Maximum Performance and never change it.
Until recently I had a pretty old/bad desktop. The new one is still nowhere near top of the line but on the really old one I noticed a major difference keeping the minimum CPU settings at 100% and I even went so far as to disable the spread spectrum control in BIOS for another minor boost. It was a power hungry setup but there was a real difference while using Windows 7 and my games. On my newer (not actually new) build I can happily make use of power saving features with a min of 5% cpu usage and no noticeable difference in responsiveness even when it jumps to actual high usage. It definitely depends on the hardware but I'm not sure exactly which part can be credited as I upgraded it all at once but I'd bet on it being either the CPU or motherboard.../would lean toward cpu
Windows doesn't care if it's a desktop or laptop, it applies the settings as the the rules tell it to. While I don't have a laptop myself, I have tweaked family members with similar results to my old desktop PC. Their laptops were worse than my really old desktop. >< ...but... I've also worked on a few infected laptops that were better then my desktop and once again in those cases (once cleaned), keeping the power saving features enabled didn't cause any noticeable slow downs. Thus my opinion that it really depends on the hardware.
hi i guess you have a i7-6700K or better , i have noticed that under 10 with a good hardware i7-6700K ,32gb ,a slight difference in performance using software like adobe after effects and photoshop with power setting balanced vs high performance
I never need to reboot. Just remember to go to Max Performance BEFORE starting the program/game and you'll be fine. And about battery charges. Charge it to around 80%, then use it until the charging levels are at around 30 to 50%. This way you'll extend the battery of your device.
