Zemana AntiMalware 2 BETA

I am running the latest installed Beta version of ZAM and confirm after running RCC 'the dirty 90' are not present.

 

However, on the PC of a family member 91 certificates were reported after running ZAM.

Main difference in systems: 64 bits vs 32 bits, English vs local language.

 

I have this certificate problem running the installed ZAM (stable version), dont know why these certificates were created.

 

I'm facing a problem. I've foolishly (albeit accidentally) lost the text file which had my lifetime license key. I had a lifetime license when I had originally participated in the Beta program and now while resetting my PC I have lost the license key among other things. I unfortunately don't have it backed up ANYWHERE. I had signed up to the public beta Google Group.

Can someone from Zemana help, please?

I'm also interested in this. I do know that ZAL uses a "trusted certificates" list, but that is to stop it from blocking legitimate tools. But installing certificates shouldn't be necessary if I'm correct, to provide security.

 

Can you point me to the post where you already explained? Because it sounds weird to me.

 

Whether the number of used engines and there vendors are disclosed or not,
I do not trust ZAM, as long as the circumstances of 90 inserted questionably certificates are not disclosed.

In fact I feel guilty, for having several customer machines "infected" which 90 "dirty certificates"
I stopped using ZAM on customer machines, the first day I got aware of the "dirty ninety"

I don't believe, that reputable engine vendors insist in confidentially.
The creator of the blueprint for ZAM, Surfright, is proud to present Bitdefender and Kaspersky on the main page of HitmanPro.
They also show which engine flagged a file, or registry entry.
They used more engines in the past, all listed on main page of HitmanPro.

I too, don't like this new development. In one of my snapshots, I have Online Armor which which showed the following. This updroots.exe is something that stated with one of the [recent] new beta updates.

I would never have noticed the 'dirty ninety' if you hadn't posted about this. Not good to 'not trust' a security program!
I had been warming to ZAM, so recently switched from portable version, on demand scanner only, to installed version and with real-time protection on.
In my case only the portable version produced the certificates issue, so reverting to that is not an option.

Hello Guys,

Please accept my apologies. We were so busy about ZAM Premium/Freemium versions and finally found time to write a detailed answer about the False Positives shown by RCC tool.

The Microsoft Root Certificate Program enables distribution of trusted root certificates within Windows operating systems.

Trusted root certificates are meant to be placed in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities certificate of the Windows operating systems. These certificates are trusted by the operating system and can be used by applications as a reference for which public key infrastructure (PKI) hierarchies and digital certificates that are trustworthy. There are two methods for distributing trusted root certificates:

1. Automatic: The list of trusted root certificates is stored in a CTL. Client computers access the Windows Update site by using the automatic update mechanism to update this CTL from the following link: http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/authrootstl.cab
2. Manual: The list of trusted root certificates is available as a self-extracting IEXPRESS package in the Microsoft Download Center, the Windows catalog, or by using Windows Server Update Services (WSUS). IEXPRESS packages are released at the same time as the trusted CTL, it's link is: http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/rootsupd.exe

But in some case, Automatic distributing system does not work due to firewall configuration, corrupted HOST records etc. When our products scan for untrustworthy root certificates, it uses the latest available authrootstl.cab->authroot.stl from Microsoft and if the user some how did not get automatic updates from Microsoft, our products start generating false positives about the certificates which are removed from the Microsoft Root CA program.

In order to prevent this we are using Microsoft tool (rootsupd.exe) to update cert store, this tool remove the certificates which are not trusted by Microsoft anymore, so our products does not detect them.

And here comes the answer to "Ohhhhh, Zemana is installing root certs, Zemana = SuperFish comments":

I checked with the mentioned RCC tool and noticed that their cert list is not up-to-date so that is why you are getting FP's with this tool.

Here is the screen shot from a system with the latest Root CAs updated which doesn't have our products installed.



We will contact the author of RCC tool and we will share our script for downloading the latest Microsoft Root CA partner list in a friendly format so in the new version of RCC you would not get this FPs.

 

Emre, I administer multiple PC's, but I have seen the 90+ certificates in RCC on only one, while all run ZAM portable.

What could explain that?
