Old, out-dated, no longer maintained -- BUT I like it!

TinyWall could fall into this category.
Very nice firewall, but not maintained.

Bellgamin, which Kerio version do you use, please?
FWIW, I had so much problems with W10 that I reformatted the HD and installed XP SP3...
Looking for a good FW now.
I got Kerio 4.3.246 from Softonic.

    TIA!

    fblais, see PM
4.3 is obsolete and likely buggy and got bought by Sunbelt ages ago. Bellgamin uses 4.7.5 Sunbelt Kerio version.

    Thanks, act8192.
For the moment I think I'll use WinPrivacy for outbound control.
    https://www.winpatrol.com/winprivacy/
It also has several other features, and I already own a lifetime license. :)

Well, WinPrivacy is now removed and I installed Sunbelt Kerio 4.7.5, thanks!
WinPrivacy was very sluggish to use and didn't popup anything when blocking programs.
IMHO there's still lots of work to do on that one...

ATTENTION!! Those using Sunbelt Firewall (SBFW) who are ALSO using MalwareBytes Anti-Exploit (MBAE) -- MBAE works by injecting a bit of code into whichever internet-facing app it is protecting. SBFW will block MBAE's code injection unless you configure SBFW to allow that injection.

To enable MBAE to inject . . .
Goto Sytem Tray & RtClk SBFW icon > LtClk "Configuration" (gets you the SBFW GUI) > On SBFW GUI LtClk "Intrusions" > Under "Enable HIPS" LtClk "Advanced" > Under "Code Injection" LtClk "Exceptions" > On Exceptions page -- browse to & add mbae.exe as an exception

    Hola Phil,

I'm sure you already know --- thy name is from Greek <phileo> - love of friend to friend, sibling to sibling, child to parent, etc.

Thanks for giving me a short snort education. (I use a Pignose amplifier for my guitar & uke playing, so I am well aware that pigs can do more than grunt.)

Aloha from Hawaii & Mele Kalikimaka ,

Since support for Online Armor ends in 2016, is it too early to add it to the mix? Been happily using it for the past year and half on an XP box. I use it with all the HIPS features turned off.

One can't install OA as a free - no way to register such version while installation. OA will remain only in our memories...

If I remember correctly, there is a free mode in OA.
When you install it, you can choose the free mode already or enable the trial.
In the latter case, it'll revert to free mode after the trial period is over.
    As I said, IIRC.

I am not sure any OA any ver sion will install anymore. They are shutting down all the backend things needed to support OA. Consider it dead.

OA's HIPS was outstanding -- easy to use & effective. IMO, OA's firewall is neither better nor worse than Outpost FW, Private FW, or other FWs that still work great on XP.

Don't disagree, but more and more vendors are going to drop support for XP. Already happening.

Using OA free. Agree the HIPS functions are really good, but overkill for this PC and what its used for.
I used to use Private Firewall, but over time, my boot times would increase with its use. Cleaning out the old stuff helped a little, but doing a fresh install was the only thing that really worked.

I wish I could acquire a copy of that version. Kerio PF 2.1.5 is my favorite firewall, but it doesn't seem to be 100% compatible with Windows XP (its behavior is a little flaky).

    Peter...
There seemed to be lots of users here still on xp who still express how good they found sygate to be.I have a serial for sygate pro which I purchased back in the day.Would it be against wilders terms and conditions to post it here for anyone to use?.Sygate has been dead for years and no longer around any more so im not sure what mods views are on this.?.
    Thanks

    Hi Ellison64

I'd PM Lowwatermark on that, but don't be surprised if the answer is no.

Bellgamin - if you don't mind my asking, what's your aversion to upgrading to a newer OS? Is it just that you have everything well in place, and don't feel like being bothered with the trouble of migrating to another OS?

    THANKS for asking!

My 1998 computer loves XP. Plus I have a lot of older programs (most of them have been with me since Win95) and I don't want to cease using them. Plus I enjoy the fact that sustaining my computer's security presents a growing challenge. In sum, upgrading my OS would be a solution to a problem which, happily, I do not yet have.

Besides, my next upgrade, if & when I do it, will probably be to a MAC -- and Wilders forum wouldn't be very much fun after that.
