I have a new Acer Aspire laptop with Windows 8.1 OS, installed Sandboxie successfully but it didn't open and run as expected. No matter what I did, I couldn't figure out what's wrong with it.

I've been using Sandboxie for a longtime in my other pc with Windows XP Pro without problem, so I have some idea how to configure it out...but I think this is not compatible with Windows 8.1?

It is absolutely compatible with 8.1 as seen by many are running it. There is something on your system that is causing issues. You might wait and see what Bo suggests or post on the Sandboxie forum.

Sweater, what antivirus have you installed? Are you getting Sandboxie messages? Which program are you trying to run sandboxed? Even though the program you are trying to run doesnt open, do you see any activity in Sandboxie control? Your issue is probably due to a conflict with the AV or another security programs that you installed.

I use Kaspersky anti-virus. But looks like it has been added automatically by Sandboxie in the compatibility settings. And my Spyshelter Anti-keylogger program also was set in high compatibility mode instead of high security.

I installed and use the free version of Sandboxie and just run the program in its default settings. The Sandboxie messages (it has many of them in one big box that pop up in the screen says that the services couldn't run or something like that). I can see the activity of Sandboxie and I can open its Sandboxie control panel.

By the way, my Acer laptop runs in 64bit in Windows 8.1.

That's what I know about before....but still thinking that there might be someone who knows how to make it "magickally" work. LoL!!!

One of my friend gave me the Kaspersky Anti-virus 2016 CD as a gift with 2 yr protection at a discounted price in pc store and give it to me when he learned that I have a new laptop. So I couldn't uninstall this, it has some sentimental value to me...LoL....and of course aside from the fact that it's a top antivirus of today.

So I have no choice but to look for other solution to protect my browser maybe something that has similar power of Sandboxie but compatible with Kaspersky antivirus.

the few that exist are overpriced or in development... if you have Sbie licensed, i would rather remove KIS and keep Sbie.

Sentimentality should not count any in keeping a software. An AV should not be your main protection.

You have a new computer. Not like mine with bios hacked that it does not matter/help any if I reinstall windows etc. Wierdly even if I want post a reply in this thread, I see Firefox asking if I want keep Adobe Flash on ask basis in wilders, that might be just a wilders glitch?. Many other things, like straight after reinstall some https site being middle"manned". Only thing that helped in that was to bring opendns in the network adapter settings.

SBIE is just a little thing in helping against hackers that we who try help people here are targeted if we are known in some other places of the crazy internet. You are not the most likely target I guess.
But Sandboxie can help a little, so i would rather keep it than an AV that conflicts.

If you want to pay, Appguard is my recommendation. It is a rather global protection that SBIE can't provide. Not that it will help me against these cracker kids too much, sigh. I strongly detest to this remark in the SBIE conflict page that stapp posted: "and NOT to add c:\sandbox to user-space policy." You can surely add AG user space protection there if you want. If you want install programs in a sandbox, only then it should be taken and heeded into account.

Kaspersky 2016 is NOT compatible with SBIE. So one has to go. Clearly for me I'd keep SBIE I wouldn't give up SBIE for any software, but I'd agree Appguard is a great addition.
