Dont be marketing victims, the only behavior blocker now in Windows is UAC, some of you should look over their shoulders, there is a ball, start it !

I was hesitant because I had problems with it in the past (it had caused BSODs) but since people keep saying good things about it I installed Comodo´s free firewall and I am currently running it with HIPS and sandboxing disabled. So far it allowed everything but one program (can´t remember which one right now) without any visible prompts, which I don´t really like (Online Armor would prompt you for every program -except the trusted ones, though you could disable that) and also prompted you upon program changes (for example it would alert me that the Firefox executable had changed after a program update). Even though it has 3 or 4 active processes it uses very little RAM, which is good.

@ jhr76 ... If you haven't already consulted Chiron's fine tutorial, How to Install Comodo Firewall (last updated on 21st July, 2015), you might wish to check it out. Configuration options are included.

Firewall is set to safe mode by default as far as I remember. Firewall checks the program, if it is marked as safe connection is allowed. Change your configuration to what you want it to do. Chiron's guide is quite helpful.

Change the firewall's setting in "Custom Ruleset",as yes,as @phalanaxus said,by default is Safe Mode. This way it will alert at any new connection,if you want to totally control them.

Outpost 9.2 was finally released and I decided to give it a try, so I uninstalled Comodo. Imagine my surprise when the Outpost setup program warned me of a "partially incompatible" program, NOD 32 and it wouldn´t let me install it... :/

I'm still using v1. It works great for me. There is another thread here were someone reported problems with v2: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/firewall-for-windows-10.377754/page-3

You may also want to look at the discussions page for WFN http://wfn.codeplex.com/discussions.

Also v2 is in alpha and v1 says it's still in beta. Still may be worth a try.

If you do try it, I wonder if it may be worth trying it without the database first, then try it with the db if it works?

I will not be trying it, because at the moment I'm not using virtual machines. I'm surprised that v1 works great for you, it was very slow on my Win 8 system, and seemed to be making use of the Task Scheduler. I was hoping that V2 would do better, but I just read a bad comment on the v2 Alpha page, so it's probably a long way from prime time yet.

The only slowdown I've noticed is when a new connection it doesn't recognize attempts to access the internet, then it may take a second or so to ask whether to block or allow it while the app is already being blocked. Once it learns the what to block and allow, I never see it again, until I add new software or something. I don't see how it's any slower than any other third party firewall or controller that's set to actually do anything. In fact I've found it less problematic and intrusive than third party firewalls.

It claims to only launch the Task Scheduler when needed, I believe that means when it needs to alert you to a connection there is no rule for. I don't see why that's a problem, but I'm not too familiar with the Task Scheduler.

I believe it was slow on my machine because of the use of the Task Scheduler, other similar tools don't use this.

Avoid Comodo firewall - it borked my computer - you just can't get rid of it. Read PCMag's firewall review, it's the best review out there

How about this oldie but goodie guide. Basically culls your network devices and reroutes traffic through your virtual network devices via a pfSense virtual box installation.

Or, if you have an old machine, maybe turn it into a pfSense box.
