Hi all, I encrypted the whole disk with truecrypt 7.0; System is Win7; there are 2 partitions: C & D; C is system partition, D is Data partition; I Quictk format the D drive in system. So all the data is gone. So have any solution I can recover the data on D?
Restore the D volume header using your volume header backup. You may see some of your data immediately after doing so, OR you will need to use a software data recovery tool. The QUICK format option did not wipe the drive space. STAY AWAY from playing with any tools you don't understand. If the drive space is not that large take a backup software tool and do a sector by sector image so that no additional damage makes the problem worse. i.e. - take a snapshot so even if things get worse you can always get back to where you are now. I see this is your first post so; I don't know how computer savvy you are. You can image D to an external drive and do your recovery work on the external drive, which affords safety to D because its being left alone for now. If I were guessing I'ld say you will recover most of the data to an external and then you'll need to re-encrypt D again and copy the data back. You may have made a typo, but if you are using TC 7.0 you should switch to 7.1a because there were some corrections of issues with 7.0. That IS NOT what is causing you your issues today.
Came back and read this again. Need clarification: did you encrypt the whole disk at once? If the answer is YES then the D partition you mentioned was encrypted to the same master key/header as the system disk(C). Please clarify how you encrypted D! You may have the option to use the rescue cd to do a full decrypt of the whole disk. This is a risky process regardless of what TC claims to the contrary. Before decrypting you should consider doing a system disk backup from while the OS is up and running. Do you know how to do that? Its simple and even if the decryption goes awry you can easily restore the system disk and start over. Folks are standing by to help you but we need some clarification.
I have no backup the header. So what tools I can try to restore? I had tried EasyRecovery but can not checked any data I wanted. I can get in the system but the D drive is empty. And, I encrypted the whole disk.
