Windows 10 Announced - Released 29-Jul-2015

Oddly the update was available immediately for my laptop but is still not available for my desktop on the same network.

An easy way to get it done is to download the ISO and burn it to disk or USB flashdrive. Then run the setup from the desktop of the current build and chose the upgrade option.

 

I think I'll wait until Windows offers me the update for my other machine.

What is Windows 10 KN and Windows 10 N? I gues Windows Single Language is smaller, but what is English International?

English International = EN-GB

I'm wondering if I want to download English UK, or more accurately English AU, should I choose English International? Or just download Windows 10 x64? I imagine that the single language version will be quite a bit smaller.

 

The upgrade knocked out Private Firewall for me & it wouldn't reinstall at all, rolled back with reflect free & have deferred the upgrade till I know the firewall will work. From what I saw the upgrade doesn't really add that much other than adding back all the universal apps I had removed & included the backdoor that is skype.

Burn the ISO to DVD or flashdrive, but don't boot from it; if you do I'm not sure you will be given an update option. Instead boot your current Windows 10 build from the hard drive and then run the setup.exe from the DVD or Flashdrive.

 

Please excuse my ignorance, but how can I identify whether I got the WIN10 big upgrade? My computer was doing other WIN10 updates for Office 2010 etc. all afternoon, and finally got done installing a list of updates. For the amount of time it took (about 2 hours) the WIN10 upgrade should be in there. It did a restart and I see all the updates were successful, but what do I look for to tell me the WIN10 upgrade is done? Thanks in advance.

 

Type About in the Search box > About your PC > If you have the Threshold 2 update it will show as Version 1511, OS Build 10586.3.

 

Or just mount the iso to a virtual drive via right click option.

 

It just says Windows Edition Home.

Is this a recent Windows install? If you've installed Windows 10 in the last 31 days you won't be getting the update for another 31 days. Installations older than 31 days will get the update now.

 

I don't know about that. My machine that updated was running Windows 7 less than two weeks ago. I bought a new SSD and installed Win10 on it 11 days ago.

I've just upgraded two computers to build 1511 using a UFD. The desktop computer took 20 minutes and the Atom tablet took 130 minutes.

I think this build is ever faster, going by using Disk Clean-up and DISM.
