For those who post their success or lack thereof with this update or that, it would be helpful if you also mentioned your OS.

Anybody without a Lenovo system receive optional update KB 3107998 ?

This KB is supposedly only for Lenovo systems (an MS security update from the October WUs, caused a BSOD , associated with the current version of Lenovo Bitlocker ).

Yes saw that. I got that update on my ThinkPad Yoga Win 8.1 Pro, so installed it. But then also got it on my Dell XPS Win 7 Pro?!

And hopefully you will never have to report on an update borking your system. I would feel much more comfortable with this if MS had a good track record of never having a bad update.

That is a very fair point. I was going to say that I do regular image backups but I guess as soon as my machine/s was / were connected to the internet the bad update would download again.

I guess I could stay offline and use my phone to check for updates or news about the bad update.

    And don't forget Vista.
The remaining Vista users are not pestered with 'Get Windows 10' adware updates and such, and can enjoy the last period of remaining Windows Vista support in relative peace, but last night there was something really off with Windows Update in Vista. Twelve important updates were offered, but there was no information offered to see which! All information about which updates were offered for installation was missing! Only after installation, in update history, one was able to see which updates were installed.
For Vista users, I hope this was a one time incident, and not an indication of what lies ahead.

A maneuver intended to send a subliminal message maybe. Vista Business users will not be impressed.

Interestingly enough, I installed this one and yet have no issues with Outlook, so perhaps that isn't really the culprit? Who knows, right? :)

Yeah, that's probably wise. Apparently it's affecting Outlook 2013 users, I'm using 2007, an older Office version. Some say the gadgets are affected too. So far, I see no problems, but better safe than sorry I suppose, although too late for me on this one. I hope MS sends thru a fix for those who did install it, which is probably millions.

http://myonlinesecurity.co.uk/kb309...indows-7-users-november-2015-windows-updates/ "KB3097877 causing severe difficulties for some Windows 7 users November 2015 Windows updates. We are seeing numerous reports from Windows 7 users about difficulties logging on to windows after doing the November 2015 patch Tuesday updates. We are also hearing about crashes in Outlook 2010 and 2013 when viewing HTML emails. We also are hearing about crashes in gadgets in windows sidebar on Windows 7 computers. ( Gadgets have been deprecated and are not recommended for use any longer due to security issues. I seem to remember an earlier GDIplus or win32k.sys update having similar gadget issues )"

Just received another Optional update (an old friend that had gone away):

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3095649
And KB3097877 went bye-bye, perhaps to return in the not too distant future. ;)

Oddly, when I turned my computer on KB3097877 had disappeared, then strangely reappeared. Now it's hidden; problem solved.

Microsoft ... get your act together!
