But many did. As did I immediately in Cyberfox 42.0 x64-Intel Portable.

Ghostery noticed, too: fix has been released in v5.4.9.

Mozilla has the clear-cut file nomenclature under the Developer Edition, yet, for whatever reason, they don't carry it over to either the Beta or the Stable versions. :ouch:

Thanks, I wondered what that fix was.

Possibly due to this new Issue. ;)

Re: Bug 1215970 - "Skype Click to Call" add-on is breaking Firefox.

No problems for me with ABP (Enhanced privacy list) and Disconnect + Private browsing on 42.0.

I wish there were a 64-bit Portable Apps version of FF. Cyberfox doesn't work properly on my system because I only have 3 GB of shared RAM, and Waterfox is always out of date.

If you don't mind me asking, what was the problem with Ghostery?

    Thanks.

Installed Firefox 64 along side 32.
Did Custom thinking that would help.
I opted for Desktop and Start Menu shortcut.
    Desktop became 64
    Start Menu remained 32
Taskbar has Firefox and Firefox (2)

bjm, so you have both installed using one profile between them?

Do you notice and speed or other differences?

Yeah, profile share. I expected to be asked. Only thing Custom asked was location and shortcuts.
Too soon to comment re pro con.
Been trying to nail down one extension that drops out.
Norton Toolbar is disabled so, don't know what if re Norton Toolbar.
And if I try to open 64 with 32 open. I get 32.
Thinking 32 and 64 were not intended to marry.

I just uninstalled FF 42 32-bit and installed FF 42 64-bit on one machine, no noticeable issues so far. 64-bit does seem to be quicker, I may do the same with my other machine soon after a short trial period. :thumb:

Why is Firefox still offered in 32 bit version for the 64 bit Windows machines? Something wrong with the 64 bit or it still beta?
At least if you don't know what install, 32 bit version it comes with. It was so in version 41 at least.

There are still plenty of people using 32 bit Windows XP, Vista and "7".

Edit: I see I missed the question. I don't know what Mozilla's plans are for Firefox x64. It's still early days and I plan to stay with 32 bit until the 64 bit version has had some time to demonstrate compatibility with extensions, etc. At the moment I don't see a significant benefit to adopting it.

32 bit is likely still the preferred version for compatibility. Kind of like Microsoft Office.

I found the 64 bit version was crashing for me on launch because I had a trial of ESET Smart Security installed. Removed it and 64 bit Firefox works fine now.

I really should just stop using this junk... I just opened Edge, IE, Chrome, and Firefox to this site. Per Task Manager memory usage is... Edge: 23.1 MB... IE: 39.6 MB... Chrome: 50.1... Firefox: 520.5 MB. Addons are minimal and all of them are using LastPass and Adblock Plus except for Edge. All browsers show as 64 bit.

I'm seeing just under 300 MB for Firefox, but that's 32 bit; I guess 64 bit increases memory usage? Regarding (32 bit) Chrome, with one "new" (essentially blank) tab open I'm seeing 10 processes for a total of about 300 MB. If you're seeing Chrome use only 50 MB I'm guessing you're only looking at one process...

Yes, 64 bit does increase the usage. With 32 bit I was getting the same as you, about 300 MB. Also, you are correct, I did not notice that Chrome had several background processes as well. That brings 64 bit Chrome closer the to 300 MB mark. I don't really use Chrome and only have it installed because of 1 site that I use that requires it. Still, 500+ MB for a single tab in Firefox seems ridiculous. Especially when it is mostly the slowest of the bunch.

Is FF which comes embedded in Ubuntu 64 or 32 bit depending on the OS? Or is the default one 32bit even on 64 bit OS?

They keep removing everything that makes it Firefox. I hope they don't wonder why it's losing market share. I want to drop it but I don't like Chrome, IE has its issues, and Edge is unfinished. If and when Edge does get plugin support I will be moving to it.

Also, I have found the 64 bit version of Firefox the be unstable. Which is weird, because I never had issues with the betas. I get a lot of "Not responding" with more than 1 tab open. And I am talking about 2 or 3 open, not dozens or hundreds.

I decided to install Firefox 64 bit with the 32 bit version still on the system. I chose custom install and changed the default directory from "C:\program files (x86)" to "C:\program files" to keep it separate from the 32 bit installation, and that worked OK. Memory usage in the Windows 10 task manager is about 300 MB when displaying one tab, which is about the same as the 32 bit version. All of my extensions continue to work properly. I played some HD full screen video on Youtube and the browser remained stable. So far it's just business as usual.
