OK I'm late to the party (and I've never owned an Apple device)...seriously, jailbreaking was actually illegal? Silliness... I doubt rooting Android applies...it's open source and rooting and rooted apps are on the Play store.
Alot of phones are blocked from rooting as of late by cell providers/manufacturers. The Note 4 for example. Was locked down so tight that it cant be rooted yet and its been out for around a year.
Some Android phones have an option to root them included in the settings. You can enable it and the phone will be rooted, and disable it if you want to remove root access.
Was that Samsung's doing or the carrier's? I know the SIII was tough thanks to Verizon (and why I would never ever consider using them anymore). It can be rooted though, Google "Note 4 rooting" to see how-tos. Rooting = Jailbreaking but iOS has a Draconian license whereas Android is Apache/GNU
Only the developer edition can be rooted and maybe a different carriers. But Verizons cannot be rooted.

Hardly convincing considering there are no instructions and the guy who released the video said he wouldnt release instructions.
There are instructions on page 6 but a mod just closed the thread a few hours ago; apparently they don't work (I don't have a Note 4). I guess the bounty is still available. The VZW SIII went a while before the bounty was earned by breaking the bootloader. Then, VZW locked it again but by that time, the SIII wasn't popular enough to get attention, so anyone who updated got a locked bootloader again. There's a way around it that works (can still root, install custom recoveries, etc.) but it adds to the boot time.
