I've been testing Heimdal on Windows 10. The new build 10586 broke Heimdal Free: Note that this did work fine in build 10240. UPDATE: Upon reboot, Heimdal Free is working well again.
Sometime within the last two weeks, Heimdal Pro has started to remind me incessantly about two unpatched applications on my Vista HP x64 system -- Internet Explorer 8 and Windows Media Player 11. I am not interested in switching away from these two. Is there any way to turn off the notification balloon or to take IE8 and WMP off the list of scanned applications? The "Exceptions" button below the "Automatically update my software" box in the Advanced tab is grayed out (whether or not I have that box checked), while unchecking the "Enable scan for software updates" in the Modules tab also unchecks the Malware Detection boxes. This is driving me nuts.
Don't know why your "Exceptions" button below the "Automatically update my software" box in the Advanced tab is grayed out - it isn't in mine. I have 'excepted' Adobe Flash Plugin for IE because Heimdal Pro is not able to update this in Win 8.1 anyway, one has to wait for a MS patch. Query with support at heimdal.com?
Thanks. On Friday I used the "Send feedback" function that you get when right-clicking on the Notification Area icon and then selecting Help. Am waiting to hear back... hopefully that feedback function worked properly! Will give it a couple more days and then follow up on their website if there's no response yet.
The beta channel they started is dead, and they hanven't said a word about when the beta will start...
no they have not left, but I would not blame them if they had. Their main product got noticed here and so the band wagon started pushing for a rep to show up and she did. The problem started with the beta. First, Heimdal should never even mentioned it till they knew it was closer to a RC then a alpha product like it was. And they caught heck for it, I mean some of you were just plain negative and relentless in your posts. I am not saying what you stated was incorrect but it was more in the way you probably made them feel. I am sure they ended up feeling guilt for ever coming here. Anyway, I am sure they are working on the upgrade, I am sure they will be back and I am sure they learned a few things when it comes to opening your windows up for a fresh breeze.
I would not get your hope up Andra was on malware tips offering a free Cyber security course for beginners And Heimdal beta , she also left her last post was Jun 29, 2015, left some users hanging with the beta issues and no support . be 4 that her boss amvlad was there, same thing Andra Zaharias job is to per-mote Heimdal security, Marketing and Communication Specialist at Heimdal Security her last post on Heimdal blog December 2nd, 2015 • 11:23 she not hard to find twitter Facebook,
I received an email a couple of weeks ago asking for my feedback and promising me a six month extension on my licence for submitting a response to a questionnaire about Heimdal. The extension to my licence was supposed to be "automatic". To date I've heard nothing from them. Heimdal seem to have real problems in communicating with their customers in this area, although the support channel was quick to reply to me when I had an issue a few months back.
I am thinking there is not point in watching this thread any longer, She no only stopped posting here but at Malwaretips at the same time.
I'll keep checking in here once or twice a week to see if anything's new. So far I'm liking the product, although obviously the communications angle of their operation leaves a bit to be desired.
No indication that I can see whether it's possible to upgrade an existing Pro version to v2 without charge or whether it's necessary to buy a new sub.
I just gave this a try. It immediately downgraded my 64-bit Chrome stable release to the 32-bit one. Firefox 43.0b9 64-bit was already installed. Heimdal installed the 42 stable 32-bit in addition and replaced the Mozilla maintenance service with the older stable version. It also did something with 7-Zip 15.12 x64, which was also the most recent release. It think it replaced it with the same release or again 32-bit version? Not sure anymore, because by then I was realizing what was going on, stopped it and used a system restore point. And it does this right after installation, it doesn't even give you a chance not to enable this feature. Maybe, if you are really quick, you can stop it manually before it starts downgrading / replacing your beta versions to the stable release and up-to-date 64-bit applications with the 32-bit pendants.
Thanks for sharing your experience, it seems that you are not alone with those problems. Heimdal: Hassle-free solution to upgrade essential software
