What is your OS? Have you ever tried giving WinPatrol some teeth by adding the autorun protection list in paid version?

Lost my Kees1958 forum registration. I use an alias when signing on to new websites (e.g. Spamkees01 at free mail provider. After after a month I delete spamkees01 and create the alias spamkees02, etc. You can increase this the agility of this moving spamtarget approach by switching between free mail suppliers (like gmail/outlook/yandex/etc).

Forgot I had done that also at this forum (though I used my real email). Something went wrong with my Kees1958 user-id on wilders, so could not pick up the password reset of Wilders via mail.

Kees - would that .txt (.reg) file still be up to date and usable for Windows versions 7-10?
I suppose one could simply remove the entries via the Registry Monitoring tab if one would like to try this, but there are problems or WP becomes too 'chatty'?

Autoruns should be stable like default programs and file types, so WP should not become chatty.

Good Morning! Well Digmor...that's a Proverbial Loaded Question...Lol! But when our Cdn dollar was strong I took advantage by purchasing many Licenses...of all the Apps...I enjoyed the Trio of Eset Smart Security... Voodoo Shield...and HMP...and HMP Alert. Now having stated that, everyone has various reason's for a Layered Approach...mine are Protection...and lack of Bloat...and Ease of use. Just as a follow up...I'm not terribly impressed with the new Eset...surf to Eset's Forum and You'll see what I'm referring to. As a member of Wilders and knowing that Change is Constant...that's my Rational for frequently changing and experimenting with new Combination's. As we all know nothing or no one is Perfect! I am using Norton Security 22.5 (Win10 x64) with uBlock for some weeks and I have to say that I am impressed. When I test other security apps I almost feel strange, Norton's approach is much more refined and smart.

Only Kaspersky and Emsisoft come close IMO ...

#2- Restore: Keriver 1-click Restore Pro (it clones my system disk 2X/week to a 64G thumb drive), Polder Back-up (for my data files)
#3- Prevent: (all these run real-time) EXERadar Pro, AppGuard, SunFW/BB/NIPS/HIPS, DriverRadarPro, MBAE, Router FW

 

@Belgamin I still have XP Professional on my mothers laptop

1. Running as Power User (OS does not update anymore, need Power User to allow Chrome + MBAE updates)
2. Running all "old programs" as Basic User with SRP* (close Program Files update hole of Power User)
3. Deny execute scripts/shell in SRP, using MBAE Free and Crystal Anti-exploit (see how to **)
4. Running Chrome with build in Flash/PDF plug-in (is easier to allow Google update***)
5. Auto allow flash/javascript from NL domains (speaks Dutch only) with Adguard

* Note you don't need Pro, you can use Simple Software Restriction Policies or Sully's PGS
** Deselected option "prompt user on exe blocked" (silently blocking), disabled Crystal AE GUI
*** Chrome also runs in basic user (LUA) sandbox, Google Update is running as default (Power User)

@Belgamin regarding XP forever: As stated in the Crystal AE thread, I have moved some family members (all over 70) to Zorin OS with XP skin, all their old Windows applications worked (Bridge and a Dutch cards game called Klaverjassen and all Windows default games) great using Play(windows)onLinux. Because it is Ubuntu under the hood, you can install all Ubunte supported apps.

I had an android smartphone and tablet at the time, even considered chaning over to Linux myself, because Zorin worked so well. The Outlook/Exchange troubles turned to be a show stopper, so I gave away the android stuff and went Windows all the way (also smartphone and tablet/transformer).

I just ordered Zorin Lite & Zorin Complete on DVDs from osdisc.com, my favorite supplier of such schtuff. I shall give Zorin a try. (I take Kees' suggestions very seriously!)

To run Windows schtuff the Zorin website (zorinos.com) says: "run Microsoft Windows programs in Zorin OS with the help of WINE." The nice thing about drinking WINE is that it's good for your circulatory system, so they say. But I do not imbibe. (Only kidding - I recognize that WINE is some sort of program.)

I shall test Zorin in tandem with XP (the Zorin DVD can run "live"). I see no need to drop XP inasmuch as my security set-up is bullet-proof. NOT kidding -- if I get clobbered by a Nasty, all I need do is load an uninfected clone (I have clones going back 6 months) & POOF! -- suddenly it's yesterday & all is well in Gotham City. Now tell me, Kees-san, what is wrong with that theory?

No not new. Since your eminence mentioned clones I trusted you cloned your valuable data also to protect it against ransom-ware, making your setup (besides being bullet-proof) also crypto-proof.

On-Demand: HitManPro and ADWCleaner for occasionally scanning my computer
Firefox addons (security-/privacy-related): Ghostery, QuickJava, uBlock origin and WOT
UAC enabled in Windows 10 (maximum level); regular backup of personal files

I really don't know whether or not this setup is overkill or still in need of additional security apps. What do you think?

I tend to keep my config very, very light. So I'm using Emsisoft Anti-Malware 11 (Beta) and Zemana Antimalware with its real-time protection turned on. I've added exclusions to both programs. So far it's working nicely and feels very light on my system.

 

Are Spyware Blaster and Spybot S&D worthwhile anymore? I used to use them, but thought Spyware Blaster (especially) was pretty redundant since I noticed it added a block list to CS Lite, which I have set to default deny cookies anyhow. Does it add entries into the hosts file? Does Spybot?... I seem to recall that it, at least, does. I'm thinking about adding them to my XP arsenal again.

 

Forgive me if I missed it and it was answered already, as I asked it quite awhile ago and this thread moves fast. Many pages have since gone by and I don't have time to check them all.

My question was about Keyscrambler. I used to use it but after awhile the version I liked (2.9.3 Free) stopped working with the version of Firefox I was using (I think ol' reliable 3.6 at the time). After that I purchased the Premium version, but for some reason stopped using that as well. I don't remember if there was a compatibility issue or if I just decided I didn't want it anymore.

But now I'm thinking about adding it to both my XP & Win7 machines. I have no doubt the newest versions will work with Win7. But will it with XP? If not, does anyone know of a version that works best with XP? Keep in mind also I'm using Firefox v27.0.1

I use D+ and block Keyboard access to all apps already. Is there any additional benefit here? Any input, advice, suggestions are welcome.

I would stick with MBAE or HMPA, they are much easier to operate plus they offer more robust protection.

 

Looks good to me, KIS should also be able to block exploits, but MBAE is specialized in that.

I'm also trying to keep my system as light as possible, I think some guys are using way too many tools, with a big chance they will start to conflict sooner or later.
