Hi I've been backing up a server for some time now daily with incremental backups and needed to restore earlier today but after 6 hours have totally failed. In HDM 14, I could happily restore a backup of the current OS drive (Win 8.1) to an external USB drive with everything running and then swap drives round. HDM15 refuses to do the backup though. I get a 'Metadata conflict' when selecting the empty destination drive (either USB or Internal, same problem) and it asks me to detach the other drive - which is the C: drive I'm running HDM 15 from. The backup is on another internal hard drive. How do I go about this please? I have also tried another PC under 8.1 with HDM 15 and a copy of the archive I need but however I do it and whatever I copy from/to I get 'Operation Failed/Denied' when I go to the write phase. The archive is intact and verifies okay. Help please if someone can. I now regret installing 15 as 14 has never failed on me. Peter
And... how do I create a boot recovery disk for HDM 15 please? That might solve my problem I'd imagine. No sign of a link to do this I can see in the software...
Okay thanks, done. Still a big problem though. The disk I am trying to restore a backup of is a bootable Dynamic GPT disk - it was part of a mirrored pair that kept failing but this one was fine and has been for many months. I can restore it okay from backup but the back up is always invalid in Disk Manager and will not boot. The archive is intact and the restored disk shows the same partition set up as the original within PDM 15. Is there some way to change the format while restoring to Basic MBR. I've found some utilities that claim to be able to convert a dynamic GPT disk to Basic MBR without losing data - but they cannot see the partitions that Paragon can and only show all space as unallocated. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.
I'm really disappointed that no one can help with this please! I did eventually find I could display the restored backup of the Dynamic disc partitions but Paragon won't let me save the OS partition to another disk, always get Operation Failed or denied. Being able to do that would solve my problems. At the moment I look like having to abandon the project after years of work.
