Help With Firewall Selection

I need help with choosing a firewall solution.

over the years i have become lazy, i currently use my router and windows firewall. I use avast for antivirus and malwarebytes (paid version) for malware.

I'm currently running windows 8.1


with all of the new changes with windows 10 being pushed down to windows 7/8 somehow i have become paranoid again.

also recently i have learned that all windows firewall products that block outgoing connections all use Microsoft api's and are not truly independent of Microsoft's influence.


here is what i want to accomplish:

I want to be able to control all data going outbound from my network.
I want to be able to block windows services \ communication
I want to be alerted when new software \ malware etc try to contact the out side world.
I want to replace my antivirus software as avast has changed alot (built in spyware, fun)


budget. I am looking to spend $200 or less.


this is what i have come up with as a solution.

1. replace advast with bitdefender.
2. install voodoo sheild, so that webbrowsing is in its own contained world and cant access windows resources.
3. keep malwarebytes.
4. install glasswire as a local firewall.


Where i need help is that i think i am going to need an additional firewall, that can block the microsoft services.

i am thinking something Linux based. I can get a itx setup with icore5 proc, 8gb ram 240gb sdd, and dual nics for $200 and then that's where i would need help

 

for firewall install net-peeker it is control every request program make(but it seems have no update around two years,but it work on windows 8.1)

Wow, +1 for mentioning Net Peeker... it looks pretty damn cool!

EDIT: Wow, Net Peeker really is pretty cool, works fine on W7 HP. Got it running atm with Shadow Defender active, wanted to test it without having to worry about remnants left over after uninstall and clashes with VPN.

Net Peeker seems to add another software firewall layer to existing firewall setup (WF7wAS + WFC). Even if you activate Firewall via install, originating setup with still remain in control. So using it as a primary F/W may not be the right way to go?

I don't think the same applies for System Guard though. It seems that SG trumps other software. For example, in SpyShelter I have allowed service registry for PeerBlock. NetPeeker's System Guard (prevent installing new service) blocks that activity from occuring (unless custom rule is created).

It's going to be hard to wait 29 days for the trial to expire, very tempting to buy this piece of software.

 

i am in trail mode i don't have licensed version of Net Peeker like you.and i don't use System Guard of that all that Guard are in spyshelter already
will i hope spyshelter developer make such as firewall.i requested add similar option.but still seems not ready.
