It actually looks like a nice laptop. Gizmodo has an article on it and they are impressed.
I wouldn't own one personally, as I never buy new laptops, or spend more than $200 on one. But, that's just me.

I wouldn't own a second hand laptop, but that's just me. Actually, I have never owned a laptop, or similar...Only, a desktop. ;)

When I bought my first laptop 9 years ago (having owned various desktops previously, and had having work laptops for the last few years)), the thought of buying a used one never crossed my mind. But, these days, I'm more than happy with the refurbished ThinkPads I buy.

I wouldn't even know where one would buy a refurbished laptop, here, in Australia... But, I wouldn't, though even if I knew.

@Tarnak I'm from Australia too, and I buy them from eBay. I've found think_notebooks to be a very reliable seller.

I have an eBay account which I signed up for in 2007...But, I have ever used it to buy anything.... I guess I have no need for it, really. I still prefer going into a shop, and seeing the goods on offer in person.

It's over priced. My Dell was less with a lot more. For 200.00 less, my Dell has a i7, 16gb Ram, 256gb ssd, Intel and Nvidia GPU, with touch screen, with a aluminum housing.

Competing against Apple on being over-priced as well eh?

I have never bought anything from MS, so please excuse my ignorance.

I see it has a 1 year warranty - so this would be just like an OEM warranty - hardware only? It comes with W10 Pro - so I guess this is a full retail license? Only available from the MS Store - nowhere else? You have to use MS support to get help - OMG! Pricing in $US - not so great where I live, considering exchange rates.

The interesting part of all this is the change that MS are making to their business model. The MS ' CEO forever' seems to like the way Apple makes mountains of money, so parallels on pricing and sales methodology may be in the works at MS starting with the Surface 4. Premium price and discounts are totally prohibited, ever.

I'm not sure what to think of it, for some reason it would feel weird to buy a M$ laptop, I don't see them as a top quality hardware maker. But it looks cool, just like the Surface tablet.

Too expensive for what it offers, just like Mac's. I wouldn't want the thing even if they offered it for free ;)

You ought to give it a try.

    I have a Surface Pro 3 i5, and it's pretty amazing.
Definitely not cheap, but the quality are excellent.

And an added bonus - no bloat installed.

It's a psychological thing. At the moment I'm looking for a new TV to buy, and I have the same thing with Samsung. I've never seen them as a top quality TV maker, even though they are currently one of the top brands.

I watched live streaming of the MS event. Windows Central had speculated there could be a larger Surface Pro but nobody had imagined this. When Panos Panay, the head of the Surface division, introduced the new Surface Pro with the set of new features in the MS devices event which by the way was the best MS event ever, I thought wow MS beat the Apple iPad Pro outright. The Surface Pro 4 is better than ever before and comfortably beats any other tablet. I thought it was a great show and MS did well. But boy oh boy it MS surprise me and everyone else! Panos showed the video introducing Surface Book, the first laptop by MS. I thought okay that's new. As he showed all the features with various superlatives, I liked it very much. Just when I thought he would finish and hand the mike over to Nadella, he said, 'watch the video again but this time watch carefully. The same video played again or so I thought. At the end the video showed the screen coming off the laptop and becoming a full fledged tablet. Altogether the Surface Book is a deadly combination of beauty and power. And I was blown away. It surely is as Panos said, the ultimate laptop, the thinnest and lightest in the 13 inch category. Something users of WSA can relate to well.https://webroot.i.lithium.com/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif The Surface book is a class of its own. It's expensive but it was launched as a direct competitor to the Macbook Pro I think. MS wanted to show the world that it too can make premium quality devices and I believe MS has achieved it with star marks. The Surface Book and Surface Pro are not for everyone. There are lots of choices like the new updated Dell XPS 15 which could be chosen over the more expensive Surface Book. But the Surface Book and Surface Pro absolutely win the hearts of their intended customers. Unfortunately I am not one of them and I don't see myself leaving the budget devices anytime soon. Maybe in the future and by the looks of it MS is sure to make the premium quality device market sweeter beyond my wildest dreams.

Too expensive. I have a device with similar capabilities that cost half that.
