Windows 10 and Security Products Compatability Problems

I'm thinking of switching from Windows 7 to 10...after the first Service Pack which is projected for release I believe next month...merely a guess on my part. But recently there have been quite a few concerns from Wilders members and the Public outside of Wilders...on various forums...complaining about Windows 10 not being harmonious with their Security Apps. Just wondering from a Protection Standpoint how prevalent this is; from both a users standpoint, and which Security Firms are experiencing growing pains in integrating their Apps with Windows 10? I have tried a lot of AVs on Win 10 and Dr Web was the only one that gave me no problems.

If you take a look here or on specific AV forums you will see that Eset v9, Kaspersky and others are all having "teething" problems on the new OS.

I am now sticking with Windows Defender (and HitmanPro.Alert) until after the first big update in November.

 

Used Eset V8 and now F-Secure and had no issues on Win 10.

Securon...I have run W10 on Kaspersky IS, WSA Complete, Bitdefender IS, and Comodo IS Premium with no issues. On Norton Security Backup there are currently some minor issues. I'm sure it is a nightmare for AV products to keep up with Windows ongoing changes. On the bright side, it's hockey season! LOL

The beta of Avast 2016 is working fine under Windows 10. Also, AVG and the several other antiviruses I've tried worked fine. If you use security software that has been upgraded to work with Windows 10, then you probably won't have any issues. Any issues I have had, I believe are general performance issues, and not specific to Windows 10.

The only times I've had and major issues was when I using antiviruses which were not yet Windows 10 compatible, on preview builds of Windows 10.

 

I've got a licence to Norton Security 22.5.4 and keep going back to Windows Defender on my Win10 x64 machine for one reason or another. Norton was working OK but I have had internet drop-outs occasionally, while I have not had them using WD. They have been unpredictable so I have not pinpointed the exact cause. All I know as they have only happened while using Norton.

Qihoo 360 doesn't give any problems (beyond FPs, which will be exacerbated with a new OS, especially IP builds)
Avira free worked fine, just couldnt' take the constant nagging
MBAE free (and trial) works fine

 

I'm sure Windows 10 complicates the situation, but I'm not entirely willing to let these vendors use it as an excuse. I think most of these vendors have issues in general and the quality of a lot of products is just not what it should be. The race to get out a shiny new UI and add features overshadows the need to produce a stable and functional product. Too many issues with failed downloads, blocked network connections, files being locked, slowdown, etc., because the marketing department wins at a lot of these companies. For example, the new Norton Security in my opinion was a great product when it was released, It gets worse with each update, and is unusable for me now, as it chokes my machine to a crawl. And that is not just on Windows 10.

 

F Secure is working great here on Windows 10. No issues at all.

That's good to know, I had Avira Free 15 and I didn't get any nagging but that was on Windows 8.1 thank you.

Qihoo 360 does have a few problems with Windows 10 64. It does not detect or stop keyloggers like it will in Windows 7 or 8. It will stop the webcam logger though.

 

Using Avira Free coupled with Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit and everything is working fine with no issues on two rigs both running Windows 10.

Webroot secure anywhere runs fine on W10

 

try it at first without any of that full blown security software. use windows methods and fill the gaps with your needs.

the important issue for me - i pay to use a propper running software. reality is far away from that:
- extension are crap and not actual usable right after updates (eg Firefox or Chrome)
- still ssl issues and flaws
- i want to have (paid) extraordinary protection beside the stupid signature based search
- antivirus sandboxes are crap
- hips is in most cases also crap
- blown and confusing options - i dont want to study options and default options are crap too (fit only the masses)
- dont really protect against adware with default settings
- cleaning a compromised system is futile

at least i always pay for nuts and i wont pay for nuts. the free versions are lacking security, this is not really advanced versus windows defender.

Securon, for the brief time I use W10 ( 5 days) the software listed in my sig all worked fine.

I would have to see a controlled test on that one; I can see a potential for various anti-keyloggers to not work in certain circumstances. Basically test it on the same box with the two different OSes. This is also peripheral (no pun intented) since it ins't a core component of most AV suites.

I forgot Fortinet worked on 10...can't remember why I chose not to use it though.

 

I believe you would be correct in that statement, however, I would go with MBAM paid.

 

i have mcafee total security 2016 and google chrome 45.0.2454.101 and when i do a search the results aren't color rated?

 

I tested 360 TS on 2 machines, one wth Windows 8.1 the other with Windows 10. I used both the SpyShelter and Zemena keylogger tests. 360 TS passed all of them on the Windows 8.1 machine but failed all but the webcam logger tests on Windows 10 64.
