I have owned a number of Android phones and tablets over the last few years and can't see myself ever switching to iOS. Apart from liking Android as an operating system, I'm attracted to the incredibly low prices of Chinese Android devices.

Android is superior. I have both iPhone 6 provided by work and Samsung Galaxy s6 provided by me. Most of us at work dislike the iPhone platform but a few higher ups at the firm are Apple fanboys and they will never change. You'd think when they see most of us leave our iPhone's in the desk and forward calls to our Galaxies they'd get the hint? It's only good due to the unlimited hotspot work pays for that I use on vacations. The Galaxy is so superior it cannot be denied even by the most rabid Apple fan. Everything from style, functionality to power the Galaxy destroys it. But what I love most is the flexibility and freedom with Android. I can do 'whatever' I want with it. I feel constrained and disempowered when I use iOS.

Used android for 5 years and switched to ios some time back..style is personal choice , power galaxy destroys ? s6 has the worst ram management and the a9 still blows everything else out of the water .. as for functionality can you elaborate ? @Handen

Literally every aspect the Galaxy s6 is better. I have both sitting here and reach for the s6 for 99% of what I do because it simply looks better, feels better and the performance is 'snappier' as well as the sound. Galaxy s6 has markedly better sound. Camera wise not even close Galaxy s6 has the best mobile camera I have ever seen. Wireless charging is fantastic but WiFi-Direct is killer- make calls in low signal areas seamlessly over WiFi. Usability on iOS is pretty bad these days and the innovations seem to be very very slow in coming for Apple since Jobs died.

I can pull 300/300Mbps with my Galaxy s6 due to the 'boost' feature that blends data and wifi together. iPhone is only capable of 150Mbps (with a strong wind to it's back) iPhone is CAT4 LTE rated, s6 is CAT6 rated. iPhone has ion coated glass (whatever that is), Galaxy S6 uses real mil-spec Gorilla Glass and can survive twice as high of a drop and extensive abuse.

    http://www.ubergizmo.com/products/lang/en_us/devices/galaxy-s6,iphone-6/

    CPU - Galaxy s6 ( 8 core vs 2 core, 2900 bench vs 4500)
    GPU - Galaxy s6 (8 Core vs 2 Core)
    RAM - Galaxy s6 (3GB DD4 vs 1GB DDR3)
    Screen - Galaxy s6 (1440x2560 577ppi vs 750x1400 326ppi)
Camera - Galaxy s6 (16MP Stabilized HDR vs 8MP HDR)
Sound - Galaxy s6 (Boosted SPA vs Single Mono Sound)
    Battery - Galaxy s6 (2550mAh vs 1800mAh)
Chargers - Galaxy s6 (Wireless vs Cable)
Charging - Galaxy s6 (Fast Charge about 30 min to full vs Normal Charge)
Multitasking - Galaxy s6 (Real MT vs Sudo-MT)

So the question is - why do people talk up the iPhone so much? I think it's a brand identifier and the perception of a sort of 'elite' club if you own one? I buy on quality, performance and functionality - not labels and clubs.

Camera it has been proven that s6 is better i6 .

Talking about other hardware , the most important things is single core performance and still no cpu can match the a8 and a9 is literally beast in that matter . i6 can perform better with 2 cores than s6 does with 8 . Even with 3 gb dd4 ram , it has horrible ram management and i6 still outperforms it with 1 gb ram . i6 with a smaller battery still has better battery life than s6 . Screen is subjective , i had an m8 before with a much higher ppi but the i6 screen is pretty great , i have no complaints .

Even with 8 cores and 3gig of ram , android stutters , and with two cores and 1 gig ios does not . You can see speed tests like these - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUw9PUlFUF0 , even with much less inferior hardware its on par with s6 . I am not saying that s6 is worse , but it took years for an android competitor to finally have a camera that is better than an iphone , you can increase all the cores and ram you can want , but still no android matches the performance of iphone . And you say about looks , you do know s6 is a damn good copy of iphone 6. And innovation ? Everyone is copying everyone at the moment , what innovation has s6 brought ? 6s at least has 3d touch .

Check this reddit thread for more about a9 chip that is in 6s - https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/3lzz0h/thoughts_on_the_new_a9_chip/

I used android for 5 years with many flaghsip devices and was never happy , every phone had a few drawbacks . And i can do everything i used to did on my android phones . Maybe you have more specific stuff that you do that cant be done on an iphone but for me , havent found a single thing yet .

It is extremly rare for me to have crashes on my Android phone. I can't compare Android to Windows as I have never used a Windows phone. I'm in no hurry to try a Windows phone either, as I presume I would dislike the tiled interface just as much as I did under Windows 8.x. In addition to that, I can get an Android phone with decent specifications for much less than a Windows phone.

And even with inferior specs windows will perform better than android . The specs arent everything

Yes, I'm well aware of that. But, the cheap Windows phones I've seen have small screens. My new Android phone which will hopefully arrive in the next week, has a 5 inch screen and only cost $130. It's a good quality brand too. For that price, I would not be able to get a Windows phone with a 5 inch screen.

I'm talking about buying phones outright rather than getting them cheaply on a contract.

Lumia 540 , 640 and 535 all cost under that price here . I am hoping Microsoft releases a new phone [ rumoured 550 ] on 6th october

@Sherlock_Holmes I just had a look at pricing here in Australia, and I can get an unlocked Lumia 640 locally for not much more than I paid to buy my Meizu M2 Android phone from China. One day, I will buy a cheap Windows phone just to have a play with and see if I like it.

The Meizu M2 is actually costlier in India than all of the lumia phones I mentioned , maybe thats because its locally available . Even I want to buy a cheap microsoft phone to play with

Sorry no. I've never seen a 'stutter' on my Galaxy s6. The fact is the galaxy has better hardware, better software, better screen, better camera, better durability, better sound and most importantly wireless charging and wireless boosting. So what's there to debate here? There isn't really any comparison. Apple is just way behind in every metric. Funny I watched the video you linked and the guy said 'Galaxy just powered past the iPhone 6', he doesn't actually recommend the iPhone in that video as it's the slowest.

My guess - you used 'older' Android's.. The Galaxy s6 by all accounts is the most refined Android ever developed. It's that good. I'd agree with you if this was 2-3 years ago. Today? Not a chance. You can't really state accurate information if you don't have the latest generation. I have both sitting here and I assure you the Galaxy is vastly superior in every way.

YOu sound like mayahana , and the only one who is sounding like a fanboy here is you . I have used android for a better part of 5 years and know hardware is not everything , but your argument is only the specs you can see so , lets focus back on the og topic

Innovation? Plenty. Not to mention the 2560x1440 screen with 4 million pixels vs 1 million on iPhone without increasing battery drain! But this is a good start.

Also check out this honest review from a guy that is a known iPhone fan. He admits (reluctantly) that the Galaxy s6 is better. But those comparisons of the camera photos? Shocking.

Using Android for 1.5 years and like its versatility. I hope that Android 6.0 Marshmallow will solve the lag part of Android mostly. The future of Android is bright. However, I am bored with Android and may be buying a Windows phone in this year end.

Android is insanely diverse due to its main virtue, that it is open source. Builds vary widely from manufacturer to manufacturer. I've had several Android devices over the last few years. All have had widely different implementations. Some have been Google heavy, others have deliberately minimized Google. At the moment I have two Android devices. One is a very inexpensive phone running KitKat that has some excellent security features including full encryption. The other is a cheap Chinese made tablet running Jelly Bean. It can only access Google Play through its built in browser. It has its own app store installed and not Google Play.

Kind of like different Linux distros. With IOS and Windows phones you are always going to get the same proprietary OS and the variation and diversity are going to be minimal.

@MisterB You will be able to install Google Play on your tablet. If you let me know the model I should be able to help you.

You don't get it, I don't want the Google play app. I like having an Android device without it. It is a nice exception to the general rule of things in Android. I can get anything I want from Google play through the browser. Some of the best things for Android like the system level Adblock Plus app aren't on Google play anyway.

I didn't realise that. I install Google Play (and 3rd party app stores) on all my devices.
