On my computer with Windows 10 64 SpyShelter fails the Zemana tests but passes one of the SpyShelter tests.
https://www.spyshelter.com/blog/spyshelter-security-test-tool-1-2-released/ The ZIp file is password protected dude.
When I first tried SS I thought that the popups were a bit excessive, however after using for a few weeks I barely get any popups at all, haven't had one for at least a week. What I did though is uncheck " Show Update Rules Dialog" not sure if this is the reason I get no popups or not but as I said I really get no popups at all anymore. I know I'll get the odd one occasionally but for now its not a big deal.
~ Removed Off Topic Image as per Policy ~ You wrote 3 posts and you did not even care enough to provide the full name and version of the program you test, and then you post a partial screenshot, seriously... Judging by the non-encrypted text, you either tested SpyShelter Free (it encrypts browsers only) or you disabled it
pass on windows 8.1 Show Update Rules Dialog is show when you update program like after update firefox or roboform and it is normal if you don't get any alert if you already created rule.
SpyShelter free will work just fine on most machines. It continues to fail the latest Zemana tests (all of them) on my Windows 10 64 machines. The problem is it's failure to adequately protect Windows 10 64. SpyShelter is not the only software to fail, many others also fail on Windows 10 64.
Ivo I=did you use the free version or the 14 day trial ? Reason I am asking is because free doesn't have firewall or app control.
Well, technically SpyShelter Free does not have anti-kernel mode keylogger module so it offers less protection. I will test it later with SpyShelter Firewall when I am back home. Even if it fails to catch the hook, I am pretty confident that keystroke encryption driver will take care of it.
It's a wired USB mouse, and even when KatMouse is disabled I still have the problem, so it must be a bug in SS.
"The password is 'spyshelter'. SpyShelter still FAILS the Zemana test" Thank you I just installed the firewall version. The one with all protection, 14 days trial. It stopped every single one of the https://www.spyshelter.com/blog/spyshelter-security-test-tool-1-2-released/ Now I need to try the Semana ones, Where can I find those? Running Windows 10 64 bit here too.
Even though Norton barked when I unzipped spyshelters test files and removed them I was able to restore them to do the tests. The zemana one on the other hand Norton would not let me restore them to test and required a reboot.
SandBox feature allows you to define a list of applications which you want to run with limited privileges. This feature: -Increases chances of blocking attacks launched through holes in applications. -Restricts access to system resources such as registry and files. -Limits access for recording keyboard input, getting screenshots, accessing to other processes and so on. -Protects from shatter attacks, it makes exploits unable to increase their own rights. You can view which directories are writeable with appropriate Spyshelter's tab. Warning: Do not try to launch critical system processes in restricted mode. Note: Since privileges for some system actions are strongly limited, it's not guaranteed that all programs will run or work properly if restricted. Note: Windows 8 64bit is not fully supported. You can learn more about SandBox feature in the SpyShelter Help File.
I tried both versions. The SpyShelter test program is stopped by either, but the Zemana tests beats both versions of SpyShelter on Win 10 64.
I installed the newest version and it borked my computer , I had to reinstall my OS NOT HAPPY AT ALL. HAd to go back to win 8.1 to clear it up.
Hi Boredog Might I suggest Macrium Reflect. With it an image restore would have had you back in business in 2 or 3 minutes. I know I do it all the time(bork my computer). Pete
SpyShelter is a bit quirky and requires at least well-developed understanding of IT topics for optimal results; it needs more work I do not know if any versions use a kernel mode driver... I haven't looked into it. It does not protect against malicious scripts because interpreters are not black-listed by default. Even if a user creates rules for interpreters it still isn't that safe. Interpreter rules do not show up in the rules pane - except for firewall rules. I reported it, but it might be by design. If using SpyShelter it needs to be bolstered with AppGuard, NoVirusThanks Exe Radar Pro or VooDooShield... I can find no support forum to exchange infos\experiences; support is via ticket system as far as I have been able to determine. It says no W8 x64 support. One has to assume this includes W8.1 as well, but it remains unclear. From what I have seen via testing I wouldn't count on it as sole system protection...
@hjlbx You can always make it "harder" by enabling option "Auto-block suspicious behaviour" and by adding to the list in SandBox areas/folders with potentially dangerous or just dangerous content like e.g. downloaded files.
@ichito It would be great if SpyShelter incorporated better interpreter rules creation for cmd.exe, powershell.exe, wscript.exe, etc. In other words, SpyShelter needs better developed anti-executable functionality... but I guess it really isn't intended to be an AE. Maybe they will add it. I reported some issues to developer... Any how, I am on W8.1 64 which isn't supported for sandbox. I have auto-block of suspect behavior enabled. It is interesting soft... a bit quirky GUI...
"Might I suggest Macrium Reflect. With it an image restore would have had you back in business in 2 or 3 minutes. I know I do it all the time(bork my computer)". Pete I think I am going to have to. I ran Quietzone but programs like Spyshelter require a reboot and so when mine got borked, I had it turned off. I should have know better. ;-) I had a rukle that any program that required a reboot was not going to be installed unless I knew it was a good one I wanted. Would the free version of MF do me just fine?
