360 Internet Security: FREE Triple antivirus engine, BitDefender included

This was all over Malwaretips forum and mass media (search user:Rolo for text 'Qihoo cheat'--I'm pretty sure you've participated in those threads).

They disabled QVM to keep FPs from killing its score. They enabled BD and maybe Avira also.
Default is QVM only. Anyone spending time on a security forum should not be running defaults without deliberately deciding to do so.

I think what Qihoo did was deceptive and wrong but they didn't deceive the AV testors, who are also deceptive and wrong in their practises (you don't ask for a test copy) and in their reporting it far too long after the fact (either they aren't very astute testors or there's something else going on...like advertising pressure). Really, it's a he said/she said and I fault both parties.

Either way Qihoo 360 Essentials was a heck of a lot better than Bitdefender TS 2015 (free 1-year license; I uninstalled it after 4 months of waiting for fixes to widely-reported problems). I'll take FPs over broken bloatware that reduced security but it isn't an either-or.

Yes, I'd like Bitdefender engine without Bitdefender software and Avira engine without nags for free. That isn't happening, so I'm fine with Win10 Defender.

 

From 360 blog its not clear if QVM was disabled but seems QVM was enabled along with Bd &/or Avira.

What you say/understand from these wordings on their blog?
"In the public version, 3rd party engine is off by default, in the consideration that the majority of our users, are running on lower computing power. @yesnoo Have a look at previous page in this thread it has been discussed before. But, QVM was disabled, and the Bitdefender engine was enabled.

In the consumer versions of 360/360 TSE Bitdefender has to manually enabled, and the QVM engine can't be disabled.

 

Which is stupid. It's the QVM that creates tons of false positives and one of the reasons why I don't even bother using Qihoo anymore. It's just too damn annoying.

 

I understand "spin control" and "half-truths". Of course they aren't going to admit that they disabled their own engine; that would publicly acknowledge that their engine is a problem and not worth running. "He said/she said" with no presented evidence to support either.

All that is irrelevant though; it's a great product but with one show-stopping flaw. I'd recommend most anyone try it to see if FPs are an issue for you. (Your system may be more static and trigger FPs less or you may have a higher tolerance for annoyances or a little from column A...a little from column B...)

Over a year ago i liked it a lot, strong detection and very lite, but this False positives : annoying + i had my doubts about their privacy policy + cheating on tests that stopped me from using this AV

 

hehe...I found the Avira free popups more annoying than QVM's false-positives...

 

Interesting. I have Qihoo 360 Total Security Essentials on two computers and I do not get many false positives. Sometimes I will get a notification whether to trust the file or not. I agree with Rolo that it has a nice HIPS/HIDS.

 

Even after the program update, BD engine won't have latest def.. I'm switching to Panda Pro...

If you could disable QVM would you use 360?
Coz Bd/Avira databases provided are not latest.
And dont know how effective is their Cloud AV coz most detections mention QVM.

 

In my opinion, Quihoo without QVM would not be so effective. As you correctly point out, Bd and especially Avira database are outdated and most of the internal detections come not from their cloud but from QVM. I guess the reason of that is their cloud is more focused on chinese malware. So personally I wouldn't use it without QVM and choose something else like the same Avira with its updated signatures.

 

Of course it's less effective if QVM is so sensitive it detects almost everything, even clean stuff.

 

I have found that 360 is the only software that will effectively block webcam exploits in Wondws 10 on my computer. SpyShelter and Zemana both FAILED the webcam exploit tests.

 

Can you plzz post a screenshot?
Does it blocks with its HIPS i.e you get HIPS popup like trying to do this/that?

Have you tested 360 for keylogging protection?
I want to know if HIPS blocks keylogging or Keylogger protection.
If you test it & it blocks then plzz do post the screenshot.

 

Unfortunatly, 360 FAILS the keylogger tests. Adding SpyShelter of even free Zemana helps

So it failed keylogger test.

I ran the Zemana Keylogger test and Qihoo 360 total security essentials picked it up as soon as I started typing in another window.

Edit: It did fail the Screen Logger test though.

 

It FAILS the keylogger test on my Windows 10 64 system.

 

Interesting. On my Windows 7 32bit it passes. I don't have a 64 bit version to check.

I tested keylogger & screenlogger on Win 10 64 & 360 didn't detected both.
It seems 360 doesn't provide full protection on 64 bits system compared to 32 bits.

 

It would be interesting to see if it works on Windows 7 64bit.

 

The stupid pop ups are nowhere near as annoying as they used to be and now they only appear on boot and not on every update. And I only reboot about once a month

 

"nowhere near as annoying" still = annoying
