As of now, I have a NetGear N300 Adapter, but I don't like how far it sticks out of my laptop. I was looking at some Nano Adapters and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions? I've seen the TP-Link TL-WN725N, Ultra-Mini Nano USB 2.0, EDIMAX EW-7811Un. Just don't know which one is good or not.
It should be noted the technologies used in each is (must be) based on industry standards and protocols (USB and 802.11n). So "in theory" they should all work the same. The issue becomes the internal antenna orientation. But the Laws of Physics dictate how long an antenna "element" must be because they must be "tuned" to the wavelength of the radio frequency used - which again is set by industry standards (2.4GHz - 2.4835GHz). And of course, the USB connector must adhere to USB standards too. So the different makers are very limited in how they can make their products stand out from the others. So in other words, all the parts and configurations must adhere to the exact same industry standards. The only truly unique variables are the quality of the parts and construction techniques. So IMO, pick the one with the best warranty and price - but none of those! All of those you listed have a maximum data rate of 150Mbps. Get one that goes up to 300Mbps. Most networks you may connect to will not support those rates, but it's there if you do run into one.
I have used this: Sabrent AC600 Dual Band Wi-Fi USB Mini Adapter IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac with WPS Support Windows XP/7/8/8.1/10 Mac OS 10.6 and above (NT-WSAC) It works well, no problems.
I'm very interested to hear from anyone else on this subject. I bought the Edimax AC600 Wireless Dual-Band Mini USB Adapter. Initially I was ecstatic, I was getting almost the same speeds ( 150 mbps ) as my wired desktop. Although the desktop always feels quicker. However several months after using it , I get disconnected . This is quite random. Sometimes I can go a week or two without problems, other times I lose connection several times a night.Other wireless devices being used at the same time suffer no problem. So i can definitely not recommend Edimax. I have googled many 802.11ac adapters reviews , Netgear, T P Link, GMYLE, Asus etc and all have comments about connection drops. Funny thing many say i happens after a fw weeks/months not immediately EDIT Just thought, most of the other devices in the house use 2.4ghz band, so I cannot compare them, however a chromebook uses 5ghz band and has no connection drops
You have to install drivers in Windows 7, you don´t have to in 8.1/10, but there are updated drivers available.
