Ok I started reading this but couldn't finish. Anybody break this down? W7Px64 no plans for 8.1 or 10. Would KB2999226 benefit me?

They will probably be pulled as Optional Updates and reclassified as Important or Recommended soon anyway.

Same here. I'm wondering is it legal for MS to push, download and install Windows 10 on people that don't want it? There has to be something we users of MS could do legally to stop this fiasco besides changing OS.

JR has explained them quite well. My post wasn't meant as a joke, just an observation as that has been the case with Optional Updates from MS lately.

 

79 does not look like it would mess things up to much.

 

From what I have read having auto-update disabled stops MS preparing your computer by sneaking in files to promote easier upgrading to Win 10.

 

I finally installed all but two of the Important security updates ... I passed on 3083324 & 3092627 ... and all of the Office, Outlook, Word updates. Two 7x64 machines running okay so far.

Only issue I experienced was on one machine I lost all Chrome desktop shortcut icons (they changed from the Chrome icon to a blank white page icon). This seems to be a well-documented issue that some users attribute to MS Updates. After researching various remedies, I opted for what I did the last time this happened (I think it was last month, not sure), and that is, I reinstalled Chrome 64-bit. That fixed the desktop icon issue right away.

 

I am seeing all these optional updates in Win 8.1 that don't seem to be mentioned in this thread yet, except for 2999226 ...

Wow, that's a first in a long time for me...

 

It was the first botched update on my Win 10 but solution was easy and quick. So no ire at all.

Multiple machines with error 0x80004005. About half of them so far with 6 done and 5 to go.

I finally did the August updates ..... only the security related, and marked as "important" , as usual , and hid the rest.

Immediately after reboot this one appeared as a single "important" update.
I've checked the various " most unwanted " lists and don't see it , and I can't find reference to it on here.

From what I've read so far .... (a) it's already noted as a " Borker" , and (b) it's a W8 update !!

Yes - just looking at updates history, I installed this on the 9th September. I haven't had any problems with it. Win 7 x64 bit.

The " word around the campfire" is that it breaks more things than it fixes ( see my links in #1072 above) .
I haven't decided between hide or install ..... I thought I was finished for this month .... Ha !

I hate seeing that Windows Update tray icon !

I was hoping to enjoy a pleasant few weeks without it .
But as the saying goes .... " Hope in one hand and 'poop' in the other , and see which one fills up first ".

I have the same policy as many Wilders members ..... Updates have to be "quarantined" for at least 2 weeks before
they are released into my environment.
