First official ad blocker for iOS launches today; ditto for Android

Didn't Google stop listing ad blocking programs of any kind?

Unless it's a BS ad-blocker with a huge exception list this'll be pulled soon.

 

There is nothing special about this browser. There already is a lot of browsers on iOS that support adblocking. I will wait until it comes officially on Safari.

 

I tried installing the browser, but it says it requires iOS 8. I have an iphone 4, and it does not support iOS 8. My iphone has been totally useless for browsing the web. I can never get to the content i'm trying to read on pages because of all the ads that pop-up. My browser rarely progresses past the ads before the pages time out.

 

Adblock plus works great on Android but you have to go directly to adblockplus.org with a browser to get it. Not available on Google play.

 

Did you try the browser iCabMobile? Blocks using filters. It's in the App store. Compatibility says iOS 7 or later and lists iPhone 4.

 

That is a new app, a browser with Adblock plus integrated in it, it looks like. Adblock Plus for Android is a separate app. It blocks ads on a system level, not a browser level. It is supposed to be most effective on a rooted device but it blocks most ads even if it isn't rooted. That app was removed from Google Play. Here is what adblockplus.org has to say:

The system wide approach is far better. On a non rooted device, it blocks ads in all browsers and most apps but ad supported free apps still get some ads though. On a rooted device, it might even stop those.

In the case of this one, it should within only its own "special" browser.

Then you'll be forced to use Firefox for Android. Unfortunately, that isn't feasible with my Google-centric synced profile.

 

I prefer Ghostery browser, it blocks ads as well.

 

FYI, Adguard is close to release its first iOS ad blocker (beta). Having experience with Adguard for Win and Android, iOS version is going to be another excellent application.

 

Hmm, a browser that blocks ads is not really an ad blocker imho. iOS 9 should give support for system wide adblockers afaik.
BTW, when I launched the AdBlock browser, it immediately asked for access to location services/gps
