Even if you don't do anything illegal, I don't believe the government should have the right to invade on your privacy whenever they feel like it. I believe the government shouldn't be given the right to invade on your privacy. I believe it is utterly disgusting how easily the government can invade on your privacy when you use Windows or Apple Operating Systems (OSes).

It has nothing to do with your OS's. They can invade your privacy any time they want in any manner with unlimited technological means. OS's don't matter at all. There are far more effective ways to invade your privacy directly via the hardware for example. They can do it and they do it anytime they please. It's a fact of life. There's nothing you can do about it. Might as well get used to it.

I agree. They can also find bugs in open-source OS's and use them to invade your privacy. IMO "online privacy" is an oxymoron.

That's the exact attitude they're looking for.
I'll never get used to it up to the moment the ~ Snipped as per TOS ~ knock on my door.

The OP's post really has nothing to do with the subject. I would suspect this thread is in for early demise.

I think you should take up a serious hobby and disconnect your computer from the web. That is the only way you are assured privacy.

Let them I say..I don't have anything to hide and if it helps lead to the thwarting of terrorist activities and the prevention of criminal online activities its all good in my book.

USA still the best. But barely.
Disconnecting might give one privacy from private businesses. Depending upon information given already, information about you innocently given up by others & personal practices.

But for sure in the US & UK at least if no information is safe from Them.

Besides it's super easy for anyone with fb, linkedyn etc.

Unless you live on an island without any technology and electricity, you have already got used to it. Actually you would be trackable even there. :isay:
Credit cards payments (not just online), phones (the more advanced, the less privacy), even the TV or a fridge with smart technologies are onto you.

You can limit your privacy exposure, but that is pretty much all you can do. On the other hand, the more you are hiding, the more attention you draw to yourself. Who do think is more noticeable, one of billions, who just behave like others, sharing his uselss data about life, which are being stored by automatic robots or someone using proxy, wearing an anonymous mask on facebook and so on, to whom they assign a person to personally watch?

Yes you do, you just don't realize it until they come and ask about your sexual habits (hey cortana, lingerie shops).

That's the dream society isn't it... billions behaving just like each other and whoever is different must be a suspect of... being different.

One of my problems is that what is legal today it might not be tomorrow. Humans have a bad habit of electing/supporting extreme parties/people.

It is unfortunate, but in order to have a job, friends, you have to lie/to pretend to be like majority. That is how the world works today. :(
I actually share pretty much everything online, that is the point of socializing, expect today, thanks to internet, you can it more widely and actually get better results. Screaming that you like anime in a cafe will make you look weird, but doing it online can result in finding dozens of anime friends. Whatever I post online I will tell anyone face to face. If someone is interested, that I like whiskey and my sexual habits include neko ecchi, so be it. :isay:

Then again I think twice before posting something, that could come back to me later, and result in loosing a job and etc, once online, forever online.

If you actually did some serious research, you'd find that this is the truth, not an attitude at all...

Buy one from the sixties and rebuild it, do the same with other white goods (I'm not in jest).
After all many of us here in the forums build their own desktops, we shouldn't be afraid of getting our hands dirty.

That's on the verge of paranoia. To live life like this is miserable.

My desktop was built by a bloke who lives near me, I think he's in cahoots with my fridge.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Maybe he fell in love with the kitchen.

  23. I despise people who say "if you've got nothing to hide" and I despise people who say "So what? Everyone collects your data".

That kind of thinking is defeatist and wrong. We all have a right to privacy. Privacy is a human rights issue. A serious one that should not be ignored.

1984 wasn't far off I think. I do not want to live in a world where we are profiled in huge databases by the government, and corporations.

I do not want to live in a society where my every move is scooped up by data mining bots. I do not want targeted adds. I do not want that junk.

I value my privacy. I will hold onto it until I die. I would rather go live in a cave and play with rocks than be stuck in some database somewhere.
