I'm looking for an alternative to MS Office. I don't like Libre Office, and Kingsoft office seems to call to home and similar... I'm trying Free Office for my not professional use at home: what about his security, updates etc ?

I believe SoftMaker FreeOffice is basically an older version of the commercial product. Not sure about security updates, but it will be a bit outdated in terms of features.

Why not LibreOffice? I believe the later versions have much better compatibility with MS Office.

Use your FW to block call homes on any/all software you want. If you havn't got a FW, get one ;)

CloneRanger, sure I have both hardware and software fw, and I use them. I wanted info mainly about updates. But you anticipated new question that I was going to do, about WPS and not Freeoffice: reading here: http://wps.com/privacy-policy/, I wonder if a fw it's enough to block all kind of communications that WPS search to achieve.
