Ideas for a new program to create

I've created antivirus remover and found there's a lot of people using it. Which is great thank you.

What I'm looking for is ideas from you guys on what to create next that you may find useful.

Hmm... Definitely something cross-platform across Windows, OS X, Linux, Android, and iOS would be interesting. Let me think about that later.

 

A real control panel for Windows 10, that doesn't leave out so many settings that half the time you have to type into the search box?

here are a few things I'd like, if anyone knows of a good existing program for any of this, please let me know:

1) an encryption program that encrypts/decrypts text or files at a press of a hotkey, so it's easy to use in any email or messaging app. most of the encryption programs I've seen either require you to copy and paste the text into a separate windows, press encrypt, then paste it back into the messaging program or app, which is inconvenient for frequent use, especially during a chat. (I made my own implementation using Autohotkey, but of course, it's not very professional and only works on 64-bit Windows. An insta-encrypt program should of course have Android/iPhone apps too.

2) an one-time pad (OTP) implementation of the above so people could use OTP for instant messages which are normally short, or even short emails.
for anyone curious, OTP is theoretically unbreakable, but it's inefficient because it requires a password as long as the message, however, with modern computers I doubt that would be a problem for short emails or instant messages - if the message exceeded the password length, which of course would be in a file both participants have on their computers rather than something you need to type in each time, then it could revert to AES or or just say that the message is too long to OTP encrypt.

3) a USB emulator, like Virtual CD, but for flash drives, so you could, for example, install WinPE-type disk onto a virtual flash drive and boot it in VirtualBox or VMware for testing. (I looked hard for one of these several years ago, but didn't find anything good. but maybe something has come about since then).

4) a gesture program, like StrokeIt, for Windows touchscreens, but instead of a program that uses a mouse button, it should work with fingers, for example, three fingers down to close the currently open program, or two fingers draw a circle to launch the default web browser. I know windows 8.1 includes some built-in gestures and I do use the one to close a program for example, but I'd like to assign my own gestures to my favorite programs or actions.

 

I think number 1 is doable @pajenn but id have to think how I would do it. I know how to do the encrypts/decrypts and such.

 

Yes. Standalone HIPS like System Safety Monitor (SSM) is on XP.

 

Does it have to be security related?

 

no not really. I just want something useful that people will like and use other than my self. Give me something to progress on for a reason. Like my Antivirus Remover program.

 

Pardon my ignorance about W10 some of these may not be needed. I have only read about & seen pics of W10. A lot of items are things W7 does.

I'd like a W10 aio program that does:
1. Takes ALL of the tiles away from the desktop. So I can choose my desktop scenery. No gadgets, dials, ads, im's, messages etc. Just a picture of my choosing.
2. If hidden a way to install & use W10 without an MS account.
3. God Mode
4. A how to & or a fix to stop Wifi Sense, turn off all the stuff sent to MS about what programs I'm using, crashes, my ad preferences etc. I'd like to receive NO suggestions about what I'd like to view next from MS.

That's all I can think of right now.

Microsoft has the dumbest method ever for typing foreign characters! I frequently type in several different languages, and the company that developed the software I use went out of business. I use type accents, and it's the best as long as you have Windows 7, or earlier. I doubt it would be compatible for Windows 8-10 though I have not upgraded my OS yet. It's development was stopped in 2009, and it will not work in Firefox, or Chrome anymore due to security enhancements made to the browsers. Type Accents can type in 37 different languages, and also supports typing many symbols. It's extremely easy to use. All you have to do is hold down the alt a for á, alt e for é, alt n for ñ, alt u for ú, etc.. You can enable which language characters you want to enable with the tick of a button. You just tick the box for the language you want characters made available for, and the alt key does the rest. I uploaded the installer to my dropbox account in case you wanted to try the software on Windows 7, or earlier. Just try typing on an Office Document, it does not always work with Firefox, or Chrome with the security enhancements that have been made since. It will give you a good ideal on how to design the software if you decide that is something you would like to do. I don't see why they would not have been able to sell their software to Microsoft. Ubuntu tweak for windows. Giving access to everything. Not just the usual run of the mill tweak utility stuff that everybody does. Options to control focussing would be a fantastic start, since windows grabs focus no matter what you want to do. Add to that, the option to disable every program from opening requests right where you are working. Flash the taskbar instead, for a configurable time.
If you are watching a movie, say, and windows wants to do the thing it does best, which is destroy your moment by executing some disk intensive operation, then add recognition that the disk load is high and delay the silly log file generation or whatever useless op is in progress 'till you've finished what you were doing. I guess it's hard coded into the OS, such are MS disregard for users, but it would be a leap forward in user control.

 

Would you guys find this helpful or useful? I'm thinking about creating a encrypting/decrypting program for Text files and rtf files, basically The program will just run in the back ground and when you right click a txt file or a rtf and select encrypt it would read the text file and encrypt the contents of the file. would you guys use such a program?

 

Personally I would not. I can do that with 7z & other programs.

 

something like Junkware Removal Tool except it scans the setup file or the zip file before you install it (before its too late). because most AV companies aren't bothering to report many of these adware/PUP cr@p any more.

 

How about a software that would restore, and improve on the ruined device manager tool? As you may know, the non-plug-n-play section is removed. It's reduction to a less than useful toy, means fault-finding is made harder.

 

The way I did it, I used an object from another Autohotkey user that does the actual encrypting and decrypting, but added it to a tiny program which encrypts/decrypts selected text at a press of a hotkey so that it's convenient to use for emails and other messages. I added this program to start-up manually, but it has no tray icon or anything (on purpose). When I press Shift+F1, the program copies the selected text to clipboard using a basic copy command, encrypts it, pastes it back (thereby replacing the original text with the encrypted message). Shift+F2 copies the text to clipboard, decrypts it, and shows the decrypted message in a text box. It's very crude, and of course all parties have to have the exe-file with the same password inside it. link

I did it like that because I just gave the exe to a small number of friends. A more mature version of the program would let the user toggle between many passwords so you could have different ones for different people or groups. I did try to add some extra functionality, Shift+F3 to automatically select all text in the active window and decrypt the top message (useful for email) or bottom message (useful for skype chat) depending on the length of the press, but almost never use that option. I also just tagged the encrypted message with [begin_encrypt] ... [/end_encrypt] but some special characters or another solution would be more elegant. And of course my version only works for plain text. It's still useful, so I love to see a professional version of something like it that people could also run on their phones and tablets. And of course OTP support would take it to the next level. fwiw, there is a program called FreeOTP that someone published with source code (C++) and it didn't look too bad. The link is dead now, but I saved the files so if anyone wants them just PM me. (Not sure if this is the same FreeOTP.)

 

I think it would be more useful if it just encrypts/decrypts selected text (or copies the text to clipboard and encrypts/decrypts the clipboard contents).

 

I would like a program for windows that allows you to choose a process to monitor, that will log that process's (and its childrens) network activity. Not a packet sniffer, not one of those netmon/procmon type apps that do way too much. Just something simple that lets me check and see where a process is heading and on what port, and if it recieves on what port. A decent example would be netstalker or currports, but those do a bit too much as well. Perhaps the best example of simplicity would be little snitch for mac users.

Kind of like a firewall, but only the monitoring portion and for a specific process.

Note, I already do this with Outpost firewall, it is in fact the only reason I have a firewall. /And I have only one rule, allow and log everything lol.

 

Just wanted to share with you guys in this forum.

Ive created a program called Hosts Block. It uses Malwaredomainlist hosts file and runs in the background updating the host file when needed. Simple program to help block malware website.

How about a small program that lets the end-user browse for a file and send it to one of several online virus scanners that are available. The app could display upload progress and (maybe?) scanning progress.

It's a rough idea but just a thought.

 

@PocketAppZ There are already several VirusTotal uploaders which do just that.
