Yeah, now that is pretty high (The threads)

I guess it's something we all have to deal with, with Windows 10.

On my Window 7, it is showing 69 processes and 886 threads, so it is not that unusual.

I guess I got spoiled with running as low as 500 and something threads on my Windows 8.1 installs.

I am thinking that Windows 10 just has more, because of all the new features that were implemented.

I solved my something happen by factory setting my win 8.1 and immediately I got the option to upgrade to windows 10. So I agreed and now I am on windows 10 home. So whatever that something happen was it was gone by factory setting or refresh setting.

Still patiently waiting for my copy. I still think I'll wait awhile. When I click on the toolbar thing, it says they're validating my PC. It's good to go, including Bluetooth now I guess. Software, most seems okay, at least the things I use daily. I'll just sit, read this thread a few times and wait.

Thanks and everything's alright? Drivers etc. Please see my Acer spec in the signature whether isn't by chance similar with yours.

Yours looks higher specced than mine. Mine is an i3 330M, 4GB RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon HD5650.

Everything seems OK here so far but your mileage may vary.

My slightly higher specced HP laptop will stay on Win7 for the time being, but that may change some time down the track.

Silly question I'm sure, but how does one change the clock to AM / PM instead of 24hr time?

    Thanks.

OK thanks. Have noticed that Acer released some driver updates (BT, VGA and LAN) for Win 10 already, at least for my machine.

While I wasn't prompted to install Win 10 yet, even though the installation folder is already presented on C:/, I have noticed in the reliability monitoring centre that upgrade to Win 10 Pro failed due to error (0x80240020): Upgrade to Win 10 Pro. Anyone can shed more light?

It behaves like it would be trying to upgrade silently but I thought that I should receive some prompt or whatever else that the upgrade is prepared and it is up to me to do this now or later.

'It makes you wonder if it will make more people go to Mac now, or perhaps just stick with Windows 7.' ~ Comments op cit

I'm guessing yes to both of those.

True but with Apple releasing their big update they are in the same boat in a way .

Lots of people are having problems with the screen turning black during the upgrade. This has been discussed a lot at TenForums. The problem is caused by laptops with switchable graphics. It can be fixed by disabling integrated graphics in the BIOS.

On my laptop with switchable graphics the screen went black for a number of minutes, but the hard drive was still active. Eventually my computer restarted and after restarting I got a BSOD, and then the setup ran some recovery. After it rebooted again, I went into the BIOS settings and then disabled the intergrated graphics, after which the upgrade was able to complete.

Edit: I spoke too soon. While the upgrade finished and Windows 10 loaded to the desktop, my laptop had frozen and would not respond to the keyboard or touchpad. I powered off my laptop, and when it started again it stayed stuck of the Windows 10 loading screen. I rebooted again with the same result. The Windows logo is showing with a circle animation running. The hard drive led is only coming on very briefly every second - there is no continuous disk activity.

    Hey there guys
Got a few questions here, if you don't mind.
Got 8.1 on my ssd, so, is it possible:
1)to perform an upgrade w/ an iso image w/o waiting for reserved upgrade?
2)to have 10 activated after installing with a local account instead of a ms account?
3)and then wipe your ssd, perform a clean install w/ iso image and have your copy of 10 activated w/o any issues?
(i don't want to have it reset via recovery tab)

I upgraded my Dell 790 from Win 7 and then discovered that my dual screen graphics driver would not allow my second screen which is a normal large screen tv with a vga/pc input which I connect to my pc using a display port to vga cable. The resolution had previously been set at 1366 x 766 and had been working perfectly before but after the upgrade the resolution was set at 640 x 480 and there was no option to change it as the setting was greyed out. This was totally unacceptable for me as I use that screen to watch movies and live tv at HD on that screen from my pc.

I then tried to restore my pc to Win 7 using the recovery option but it just kept informing me that it was restoring but kept looping into a reboot and never actually completed the restore. Lucky I had made a backup using Paragon Backup and Recovery 2014 and I was able to restore my system partition to get back to normal.

I will wait to see if there are any fixes for this graphics driver issue before upgrading again.

Alternatively you could use the Microsoft download tool and grab the .iso yourself ;)

    2. Yep! http://www.baldnerd.com/install-windows-10-without-a-microsoft-account/
    3. Yep! Edit: On clean install, press "skip" when it asks for a product key and it'll activate online later (for both local and Microsoft accounts)
