I always disable VS when doing a system restore, that way it doesn't interfere and I haven't had any issues - not that I use system restore very often !

Latest beta working fine except it no longer opens automatically on start-up and I have to activate it via the desktop shortcut even though Services are showing it as Running/Automatic and VoodooShieldService.exe is running in Task Manager.

In Basic Settings, the box “Start VoodooShield when I start Windows” is unchecked but when I check it and try to save the new setting I get an error message …“Sorry, we were unable to add VoodooShield to your start list”.

Hmmm, I think that the Custom Blocked Folders under Settings / Custom Folders pretty much does what you are saying for executables, but are you talking about applying a policy restriction for all files (.doc, .jpeg, etc) in the Custom Blocked Folders? If you have not tried the Custom Blocked Folders feature, can you please try it and let me know how we can enhance it? BTW, thank you for your encouragement, I appreciate it very much ;).

I personally would exit out of VS (along with pretty much all other software) before doing a system restore. We actually should alert the user to disable VS when they start system restore, just like VS does when the user goes to Programs and Features. Thank you!

Hmmm, very odd. Can you please exit out of VS completely and uninstall it, then reboot, reinstall and reboot one more time. You might want to also delete all of the files in the C:\ProgramData\VoodooShield folder after you uninstall it... this will completely reset VS. I am thinking that for some reason the service was not updated properly at some point. Please let me know what happens if you try this. Thank you!

    Thanks Dan.
Since posting I managed to find a workaround by dragging the VoodooShield shortcut icon into Microsoft> Windows.Programs>Startup but I will do a complete re-install as you suggest and let you know the outcome.

No worries, Dan, always pleased to try one of your 'special' recipes...:argh:

Seriously though, in terms of both Win7 64bit & Win8.1 32bit...nothing abnormal to report in terms of normal usage other than I have had to uncheck the Java Blacklist item due to the verbose nature of the warning coming from VS...no surprise there. Other than that all is good...so far.

    Have a great weekend.

    Regards, Baldrick

Yeah, java is a tricky one... we might be able to make it a little more user friendly, but we have to keep it safe at the same time... it is always a difficult balancing act.

BTW, have you guys seen this? 268 shares... not bad ;). http://smallbiztrends.com/2015/04/best-antivirus-software-options.html

Thank you, you guys have a great weekend too!

When VS takes a Snap Shot does it do VT query to prevent detected malicious files from being white-listed?

    Thanks,

Not at this point, simply because the average snapshot is 60+ items, and it would take way too long to upload all of those files that quickly. But, we could possibly scan the files over time once the whitelist is built, like maybe over 5 minutes or so, and remove and quarantine them if a threat is detected. Does something like this sound good, or do you have any other thoughts? I think I already wrote the code for this awhile back, I just have not implemented it.

I personally do not care if there is a delay (and I would expect as much since we are not talking about a simple hash scan but instead uploading files to VT)... just as long as any known_malicious files are blocked and quarantined.

My only real concern would be any unexpected problems associated with VT-imposed upload limits.

... And maybe some people's data limit?

Perhaps it would be more clear, if instead of Enable balloon notifications the setting read "Enable notifications and prompts" or "Enable alerts." This wording covers both balloon notifications and prompts.

    Potential incompatibility...

    W8.1 x86-64

    Comodo Internet Security v. 8.2.0.4591 and VooDooShiled v. 2.78beta

I followed your advice in order to reactivate VS. However, I still got the internet connection error message from VS until I disabled CIS.

Also, after installing VS onto a system with CIS, system start and restart takes a very long (> 5 minutes). When I uninstall VS my system returns to normal.

I'm not sure what is happening - and I'm not sure if it is CIS, VS or a combo conflict.

I checked the CIS logs - which are very detailed - and CIS is not recording any blocks (that doesn't mean it isn't happening). Plus, VS is white-listed by CIS... so I think it is some form of conflict instead of a hidden CIS block.

    Just to let you know...

    Best Regards,

    HJLBX

Perhaps "Temporarily allow by publisher\digital signature until system restart" would be more clear than "... until reactivation."

Metered connections... yeah, can be problem.

    @VoodooShield

If you implement VS Snap Shot - VT Upload then perhaps it would be good to allow user to opt out with a setting that can disable the VT query.

    Best Regards,

    HJLBX
