I almost always run SUPERAntiSpyware (paid Pro version) before shutting-down my computer and often found that tracking cookies/adware was being loaded in the course of my browsing. Therefore, I installed SpywareBlaster (free version) under the specific impression that it would *prevent* such adware from infecting my machine. To my disappointment, I find that, even though I check for updates almost daily, and always "Enable All Protection,"SpywareBlaster, by the end of my web browsing session my machine is still laden with very well-known tracking cookies etc. such as atwola. Is this normal? Previously I really thought that by running SpywareBlaster before even launching a web browser such malware would be prevented from infecting my computer but this is clearly not the case. I'd be willing to upgrade to the paid version of SpywareBlaster *if* it actually prevented adware and tracking cookies to get a foothold in my machine. If I'm mistaken about the whole purpose of SpywareBlaster being to prevent adware, tracking cookies please educate me!
Hi, It's a long time since I used this programme. As you rightly say Spywareblaster doesn't remove items it only sets 'kill bits' in the registry to prevent these items getting in, and actually SWB doesn't 'run' in the background, once the kill bits are set it doesn't do anything. Not all cookies/adware are prevented by SWB, look through the cookies list to see if atwola is mentioned. Not all browsers are protected. The paid version if I remember rightly only gives you the (not so frequent) automatic updates it doesn't improve the scope of the programme. Do you use a hosts file ?, the MVPS hosts file below would help with a lot of your problems, (atwola is listed several times in various forms) and what about a browser add on such as Ghostery ? - both are free. http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm Regards Gordon
Hi, Could you please let us know what web browser(s) you are using? (And what version of each?) SpywareBlaster should indeed be blocking tracking cookies for you, as long as you are using one of the many supported browsers. Thank you!
Thanks very much to both who've replied to my post so far! And no one even made fun of me for the glaring spelling error I made in the subject title! In regard to javacool's question, over 90% of the time I use Firefox, currently version 39.0.
