I have just rebuilt my PC after the motherboard failed but would like to try to use my existing boot hard drive which has Windows 7 Ultimate x64 installed. I purchased a copy of Paragon Hard Disk Manager 15 Suite which I hoped would enable me to create the necessary boot disk for injecting new drivers into the windows installation on that drive. Since I obviously cannot use that PC I am using my Vista laptop and have installed Paragon on that and from there I have created a recovery DVD using Paragon Recovery Media Builder and succeeded in booting my PC into that. However, there does not appear to be any option on there to inject new hardware drivers into my Windows Installation. Also I tried creating a bootable USB drive from a 2010 version of Paragon Adaptive Restore. However, although the USB drive showed up in the boot options in my BIOS it failed to start the program. As I only have one DVD drive I want to use that for the DVD containing the motherboard drivers so would like to be able to use a USB flash drive for the bootable Paragon media. Please can anyone offer me any advice on how to complete this task. Thank you.
It is quite possible can use your existing boot drive as it is with the different motherboard. It's certainly worthwhile trying it. I've moved hard drives between different models of ThinkPads with no issue. Once I mistakenly put the hard drive I'd taken out of another brand laptop into the one I was working on and it booted up fine. With XP, you would typically get a BSOD (often fixable by doing a repair install of Windows) with major hardware differences, but more recent releases of Windows handle such changes much better.
Install the disk in the rebuilt computer, boot from the boot medium with HDM 15, use the module P2P Adjust OS to inject the drivers. See the HDM manual, "Make the system bootable on different hardware".
Thank you for the responses. I have managed to run the Adjust OS wizard to my Win7 installation and applied the changes but the BIOS still appears not to be able recognise it as a boot drive and will not offer the drive as a boot option. When I power up the system just keeps cycling looking for boot files. The motherboard is an ASUS Z97-K. Also the hard disk was partitioned with the other partition just being used for storing my personal files. Could that be relevant to why this hasn't worked?
Could you list the partiitions that are in the disk, or post an image of the disk map as seen by HDM from the boot medium? Did you check that you have an "active" partition?
Adjust OS Automatically? It may be better to specify to extracted on the flash drive folder with the drivers for the controller HDD. What was the old motherboard? And what style HDD - GPT or MBR?
