I've turned off the auto-update stuff, but each has a version which was already downloaded but not installed yet. Can I kill the downloads or stop them from trying to install themselves, or am I doomed? Thanks
I don't use those particular applications, but the first places I'd check would be: The Startup tab after running msconfig.exe Task Scheduler Services
Thank you. Apparently the new Reader has a new "Microsoft-like" UI, and lots of folks dislike it. It weren't broke, etc..
Killing updates for java is not a good idea, because of security issues and sooner or later you will be unable to run java apps requiring a higher version. As for Adobe Reader, there are many replacements, which are faster anyway. I do not get it, to install a few hundreds MB software just to open a tiny PDF.
