The Security tool will identify and remove malicious software." http://www.cbronline.com/news/cybersecurity/data/facebook-tackles-malware-with-kaspersky-4609011
Most definitely best protection against threats from social medias. I'd use it it's it's neatly implemented and didn't give too many false positves. You brain is still no. 1. protection against these types of threats. Average Joe desperately needs the new scanner.
Now that facebook knows who you are, what you look like where you work and who your friends we will now scan all the files in your computer to ensure you are not holding out on us..... oops did i say that ? sorry I meant, "to ensure there is no malware."
We have made Facebook and companies like it stewards of our private information, whether we wanted that outcome or not. It only makes sense that they, in turn, provide tools and technologies to keep that data "safe." Unfortunately, large data warehouses have proven to be the most vulnerable to security breaches, so...yeah, the stewards have done a poor job, but the consequences they have faced for their ineptitude have been mediocre at best. I don't see this new tool changing that discouraging trend any time soon.
No, it won't be "the best online security scanner", most likely it will be the most privacy invading security scanner
I see nothing wrong with it. Not that I have the use for it personally as a Facebook user as I never get infected.
Funny how all FB related topics end up in discussion, that people will never use it. I love FB as an universal login, no need to register for shops, forums and such. FB is a tool, just like knife, you can either use it for murdering people or cutting vegetables. But people always blame the tool, when they manage to cut themself. Since FB is the best social network out there, then such a scanner will greatly improve its security, especially against social network threats.
Facebook and trust do not belong on the same page. Trusting anything to do with Facebook is just indicative of how far humanity has progressed backwards.
FB can be handy, but I hate them for their privacy violations, and for their bad website design. It's way too sluggish, even on modern browsers and on new machines.
