I have found 360TS/TSE lighter on resources (esp. CPU) than most others I've tried when the security level is set to Performance. But with 360's Avira/BD engines enabled there are lighter AVs (e.g., BD-Free). Btw, I also prefer TSE over TS for the very same reason.

How do you find performance when set to Balanced?

Yeah I have to agree with appster. With the BD and avira engines enabled the mem creeps up to 60K. Sometimes it shots up to 90k but I'm assuming its running something in the background like an update.

At idle, it stays at 25MB with all engines, a bit less than an idle Dropbox; MBAM is using 127MB.

Hi, I think low CPU & HDD usage and memory footprint are not quite identicial ?

No they aren't; they all effect different things but they all effect performance for different reasons. I don't care about memory usage since I have plenty of RAM but if one only has 1 or 2GB, it is a concern. I care less about disk usage since I have an SSD but a full, fragmented platter drive will be an issue (it'd be slow anyway). I do care about CPU usage since I don't want it hitching other processes, especially games and other real-time operations (streaming).

Since Qihoo's target market is largely low-end hardware, it's designed to be light.

Thanks, I understand. Memory is indeed important when using it on a machine where RAM is more than limited.

When set to Balance on my rig it uses quite a bit more CPU (& RAM) than when set to Performance. I find my 2GHz P4 CPU is the most performance-critical resource, much more so than RAM (where 2GB on WinXP-x86 is ample)!

If I read that right, you have Pentium 4 CPU in your PC?
If so, then you should expect slowdown as modern programs use a little bit more harder computations than back in the day.
So, based on these constraints, I'd suggest:
    - Keep Performance profile on working days
    - Full system scan each Saturday or Sunday, on balanced and AV/BD installed
    - Malwarebytes just to make sure also scan after Qihoo
    - Daily browsing SANDBOXED [go out of sandbox when you really have to, note it might be a security risk]
    - Patchup that windows!

    This should keep you safe....

GakunGak, it looks like 360's issue with Avira signatures is getting worse: as you can see, signatures are stuck on 4/6/2015, almost one month old!

    Virus Database File
    Version: 7.11.237.234
    FUP: 1
    License date: 4.6.2015
    VDF date: 4.6.2015
    Minimum engine: 7.9.4.32
    Signatures: 7874074
    Required linked VDF: 7.11.237.158

@garrett76 I've installed TSE on a few computers lately and I've had no issue with the Avira signatures updating.

Roger, can you please open the folder: 360\Total Security\deepscan\SDEng\savapi and look for the vbase031.vdf? If you open it with notepad, you should read the version of avira database.

@garrett76 I'll do that later when I get a change to use a computers its installed on. I realised after I posted that the date of the definitions shown by TSE may differ to the actual date of the definitions.

I read in a few placed the bad rating is given to qihoo 360 because of cheating in the tests. So now I do not know if its protection is still any good and is it trustable? Anyone can shed some light on this for me?

They supplied the testing labs with a version with their in-house engine disabled and Bitdefender activated, in order to avoid false positives. They however did not make modifications to make protection / detection look better than it actually was. The protection is still solid.

    Nice try.

I'm sorry for giving you the impression of trying to bash Qihoo. This was not my intention. Personally, I think this whole situation was blown way out of proportion. As of matter of fact I have been very sceptical about these "revelations", which just came to light, when the Qihoo was looking to good.

Again, I was merely trying to tell taleblou that there was no "cheating" in regards to protection.

Re the discussions about 360's updating delays, I'm using TSE v6.6.1.1014 and it reports the Last Update to be 2015-06-09. Is this the date the program was last updated? Hopefully it's not the last time the database was updated!

I guess I have to update my sarcasm detector :) Sorry for not understanding your true intention. :)

Is there a particular feature or bugfix you need to have program update?
TSE is designed to be antivirus only without extra features. If you have issues with it, please do report them so the others can benefit! Thank you.

I don't agree there was "cheating" (especially when the testers were told in advance) and the paid-for mass media won't let it go--which makes me trust the hired testers and the hired media even less (which brings it to zero). Journalism = paid-for shills (any doubters read SimCity reviews after-the-fact!)

Since Qihoo was topping their tests, I think the companies who rely on subscriptions let the testers know that they can't let some freeware outshine them and that the testers need to do something about it, lest they not get hired for more tests. Not testing Qihoo any more punishes the readers, not Qihoo.

The QVM engine does seem pretty tough but I don't think it's stupidly false-positive crazy; it did catch a lot of malware that the top 12 or so engines missed in my tests. Read Qihoo investor relations page and see how many times the term, "machine-learning" is used. :)

Anyway, having said all that, I'm running the Win10 version (6.8.x.x) and have the same 06 April signatures--which still beat other products I've tested that are, apparently, newer. I've been thrilled with the product so far.

Is there a way to check the Bitdefender signature date?

I would simply like to know if the Last Update Date (2015-06-09) refers to the 360TSE program or its AV signature database!

On the dashboard, the main page:
If You hover the AVIRA, or Bitdefender icon, the date of last signature update is displayed.

On the bottom of the left column:
Click on the version number 6.6.1.1014 to start an update.
Either You get an error message, that update failed, or You get a summary, if update was successful.
