Was following a thread about this back in 2013. Now need to update to IE 10 or IE 11, but it still appears inconclusive whether any program out there can truly clear/delete the newest Webcache folder, files, and logs created by the IE 10 and IE 11. PrivaZer claims that it does, but I read others say that it doesn't or only partially does. So can anyone advise for sure (hands on actual usage) that it can clear/clean this folder and files? And, that it causes no harm or other issues with windows after using. Thanks
Really !!?? So not a single person using IE10 or IE11 has installed PrivaZer and verified that it is cleaning the most privacy collecting folder/data base file that microsoft has ever used? Even PrivaZer can not confirm if it works for sure and completely?
Really. WebCacheV01.dat is locked by taskhost.exe or dllhost.exe. End either process and it can be deleted.
That's it? Task Manager>Processes>Taskhost.exe End Then WebCacheV01.dat can be manually deleted? Is a new empty Webcache file recreated like index.dat use to do? Can you then restart Taskhost.exe from Task Manager or does it require a computer reboot?
This has been my experience (in Windows 7 x64) even though I don't use IE... I use CCleaner, CCEnhancer and winapp2.ini, the latter two add (among a bunch of others) an "Internet - Internet Explorer 10/11" item for cleaning. Under that, the WebCache files are found - chk, log, jrs - and that V01.dat file, sometimes. There are times the dat file isn't listed and that's when I find it to be locked. CCleaner won't display (or clean) files in use. As for either of those two processes, if in Task Manager you see they're running under your user account, you can End without issue and delete the dat file. They'll just re-start themselves when they need to. And those WebCache files will eventually return. Unfortunately, occasionally either process could run as SYSTEM and generally you can't End even under an admin account. A reboot will free up the files so they can be deleted (unless you're running something at startup that runs the process as SYSTEM and writes those files). Or you can learn how to run cmd under SYSTEM privileges and use the del command on the file(s). And it'll just come back again. I'm not actually sure if there is any compelling reason to delete the WebCache files. I just do it because they bother me. So everyday or two, I zap them; certainly before my weekly backup. Them and the Temporary Internet Files and CustomDestination files that show up whether one uses IE or not. That's it.
Hello guys, we were not aware of the existence of this discussion. So let me give you some details concerning WebCacheV01.dat deletion. PrivaZer does really delete webcache files like webcachev01.dat. PrivaZer unlocks them and securely deletes them. You can clean it partially or entirely depending on the options you choose in PrivaZer. See screenshot below. Once webcache files are removed, they are automatically recreated by the system but this time empty, with a pre-allocated size (speeding database access) of a few MB. That's why some users may think that PrivaZer did not perform the cleanup but it did! no traces of previous activities can be found in the newly created webcache files. Hello to @all, as many users prefer to remove all WebCache files like WebcacheV01.dat, the "remove all" options is now checked by default in PrivaZer v3.0.3 and the WebcacheV01.dat scan + cleanup have been improved.
I donated to Privazer this past week specifically because it got rid of all WebCacheV01 error messages (Win 8) that I'd never been able to resolve. Not only that, it cleaned out so much junk that my old laptop is running faster than when it was new. I also run enhanced CCleaner but that never did as much as Privazer has done for me. I'm grateful to the Privazer team and impressed with all the quick support they give on this site and how quickly they resolve issues and add features suggested by users. Back in prehistoric times when ZoneAlarm was being developed that team spent lots of time on GRC Security Forums doing the same. Users were very active and helpful so its sad to see that now, years later, ZA has added garbage to the software and the forum Admins are horribly rude to users of the free version. I'm hoping Privazer stays as good as they are now and doesn't forget all the input they received from all of their users. Thanks!
