Ever since I upgraded from Windows 7 x64 Pro to Windows 8.1 x64 Pro I cannot get Keriver to backup to my NAS. I have reached out to Keriver with no response. I am looking for an alternative that is similar in features, speed, and is intuitive. The replacement software must be able to backup SSD's and across a network to a NAS. Would love something that has the ability to open snap shots from the OS image and recover individual files or the entire OS if needed. Cost does not matter to me in this case. I am willing to purchase what ever I need. What suggestions are out there?
I think the issues Im running into are due to Keriver only being compatible up to Windows 8, not 8.1 Ran a quick trial with Image For Windows and have already created a C drive backup, mounted the backup as a partition, reviewed contents, etc. successfully. This may be a keeper.
I'm just trying Keriver on a Win8.1 UEFI system. I don't think it supports GPT disks. It installed but doesn't recognize the partitions.
Exactly the issue Im running into. During the summary screen I get Disk 0: ? Unknown and from there VSS fails to initialize on the disc and the backup fails saying it cant read from the disc.
I'm trying it on a Win8.1 MBR system. C: drive is recognized and Recovery partition is called ? Image has been created and I'll try a restore to a new, empty HD.
Restore was successful. The Recovery Environment is very similar to Drive Cloner. Poorly designed and too easy to restore to the wrong HD. I did that with Drive Cloner. I had no problems with Win8.1 installed in MBR mode. Is your Win8.1 installed in UEFI mode?
Sure is UEFI. Not worth changing it to MBR. Also realized the last time Keriver was updated was December 22, 2012. Hasnt been updated to support 8.1 since then.
It's not 8.1 that is the problem with Keriver. It is UEFI. If you had UEFI Win7 or UEFI Win8, Keriver wouldn't work. Make sure you have an Entire Drive backup. You need the Recovery, ESP and MSR backed up as well. A solitary C: drive backup will be of little use if the HD fails.
Does IFW come with a lifetime license, but not free updates other than minor revisions or is the license for a certain period of time?
I bought ver 2 IFW/IFD/IFL (all included) eight years ago. There have been around 100 free updates since then. The license covers 3 home computers. When ver 3 is released (probably years away) ver 2 will still work but will no longer be updated. If you purchase, spend another $11 and get the Special Bundle. BootIt Bare Metal will be included. It is my favourite app.
Any other recommendations to consider that can backup UEFI drives and can backup to a NAS across the network?
Ive been dabbling with Veeam Endpoint Backup as I am familiar with Veeam Backup and Replication in an enterprise level environment. So far its fast and easy.
