Hmmm, I wonder why VS is not learning that command line? If you put VS in Training, then reboot, it should learn the command line automatically. The only way we are going to ever make this right in Windows XP is do implement a KMD. But then again, the current AppCertDll that we are using works great for Vista and above, so the only reason to change to a KMD really is because of Windows XP. The problem is that the AppCertDll does not get the command lines for Windows XP, so I have to use a work around that can result in high CPU utilization. I will play around with some KMD's soon and figure out which route to take. Thank you!

Hmmm, this is very, very odd, sorry about that. When did this start happening? Does it happen with the current 2.50 release on our website? I downloaded the free version of PagePlus, but it did not have this issue, so I emailed the company to see if I could get a trial of the version you are using. Hopefully I will hear back from them so I can test and fix it. What version of Windows are you running? Are you running any other security software as well? Thank you!

This will be an easy fix... you are running Windows 8.1, right? Can you please let me know what Sidebar software you are using so I can test and fix this? So even when you click Yes, it continues to alert you? Also, VS now starts in Smart Mode after initial installation, as opposed to Training mode. I changed to Smart Mode because of the way VS now automatically allows items when it is OFF in Smart mode, assuming they pass the blacklist scan. Thank you!

H1Z1 PROCESSES (NOT FIXED IN 2.73a BETA):

    This issue still remains

The processes that continue to linger, but should close after game exit are...

    1. "AwesomiumProcess.exe" - Awesomium 1.6.3 (32-bit)
    2. "LaunchPad.exe" - Sony Online Entertainment LaunchPad (32-bit)

I am on Windows 8.1 Professional 64-bit and game is running under Steam

I tried clearing the whitelist, Training mode, the whole nine yards and still no luck.

GOOGLE CHROME (FIXED IN 2.73a BETA)

As for the Google Chrome process lingering, it appears to be fixed in 2.73a Beta

Sorry about that... I am going to setup an account on steam and download the game and test it. Do you use H1Z1 or the H1Z1 Premium, or does it make a difference?

Edit: BTW, did VS 2.50 have the same issue?

No need to apologize, you have a lot going on at once, so I completely understand.

The regular version of H1Z1 is the one I have, so no need for premium.

Thanks for looking into this, I appreciate all your hard work and dedication.

    and...

Yes, 2.50 had the same issue.

hi Dan - only used VS for a few days, but first impressions are very good - install and initial whitelisting was very easy & i've even put it on my parents pc as i think it's easy enough for even them to use. just put on 2.73a - nice to be able to hide the desktop gadget - it was in the way & i accidentally toggled on/off a few times.

unfortunately chrome is sometimes leaving as many as 3 processes running on shutdown so occasionally this is still an issue for me.

in smart mode once a web app is launched VS can be toggled on/off with left mouse click - a few times i believe this has interfered with the intended function of smart mode - it doesn't turn on/off automatically until i re-select smart mode in the menu.

also regarding 'user space' blocking - if user folders like 'documents' have been moved (via 'location' tab in 'properties') to a different partition they are not automatically protected as part of the 'user space' - can obviously do a custom block, but if this is an easy fix i think it'd be useful - even my non-techy parents have their data on a separate partition :) not a big deal i guess as long as Appdata and Downloads haven't been moved.

is there a trial for Pro features - i like to play around a bit more with it

Using the latest beta, the Chrome workaround is working fine for me.

I just went to Control Panel > Uninstall a Program and VS prompted me to disable itself. Very cool! :thumb:

    Thanks Dan

    Running Win 8.1
    Private f/w
    Sandboxie full

I have gone back to 2.5 so will see how it goes, though won't have time to try it till tomorrow.

Don't know when it started as I don't have to use it that often, but in normal typing I have add odd spaces being inserted going back a while. Never got around to a attributing it to anything.

    Will keep you posted

i was just reading through the 'great UAC debate' a few weeks back... I use a Standard User Account and UAC on Max - among other things this puts password protection on windows firewall settings - this seems like a good enough reason to leave it on to me - or is this easily bypassed? I currently have UAC on max with VS in a SUA and all seems fine so far

UAC does not conflict with VS and in fact the latest beta versions no longer prompt to disable UAC. It is up to the user to decide if they want to use UAC or not.

Cool, thank you, I downloaded H1Z1 and started playing and I am able to reproduce the issue. It is going to be a tough one because a guess Steam has a lot of things going on, and it might be kind of difficult to narrow down, but I will look at it some more to see why it is happening!

Cool, thank you for letting me know!

Yeah, we can tweak the chrome workaround a little so that it works for everyone. I was curious whether there would just be the one inactive chrome process remaining on everyone's system or not... so now that I know, we can tweak it a little so that it works even better.

Hmmm, as far as manually toggling VS in Smart Mode... there are a lot of ways we can tweak this, and it might just be a bug. Basically, how it works now is when VS is in Smart Mode, and no web apps are running, VS will stay OFF, even if the user tries to manually toggle it ON... the it will display a balloon that says something like "Please start your web browser or email to activate VS in Smart Mode!". Then once a web app is running, the user should be able to left click on the desktop shield gadget to toggle VS ON and OFF. When you experience this issue... have you already closed all of the web apps so that VS will not toggle back ON? Or are web apps running and VS simply does not toggle in smart mode with the web apps running?

As far as the documents folder being moved... VS should block executable files no matter where it is moved to. For example, if someone moves their downloads folder to their d drive, VS should block anything that is executable. If not, please let me know! And really, like you were saying, the most important thing to protect in the user space is AppData and the other favorite hiding spots for malware.

Sure, if you or anyone else ever needs a Pro license, just email me at support@voodooshield.com and I will set one up for you! Thank you!

Great to hear, thank you! It looks like I have to tweak it a little more, but I think this will work well for everyone.

Cool, thank you! If you guys can think of other places where we should add this feature, please let me know. Like System Restore or something like that... it is super easy to add at this point. But of course we do not want to add it to every windows feature ;).

Sure, thank you! I emailed the company and they were nice enough to work with me and send me the version you have, along with a license. I installed it on Windows 7 64bit (I was not sure what version you were running), but I could not reproduce the issue. Basically, I created a new publication and tried to insert a standard text frame, but I did not notice any kind of conflict or weird typing stuff. Is that what you do to reproduce the error?

Please let me know if this is an issue or not on VS 2.50... that will help a lot. There are only a few things it could possibly be, so it should be pretty easy to fix. Also, when it happens, are there any processes that are pegging the CPU in the task manager? Thank you!

Cool, thank you... does it act OK when that option is enabled? I have not tried to reproduce this error yet because I my main computer is a local account, and in order to use this app, you have to sign in with a MS account. So I will try it on my laptop asap, it should be an easy fix.

Hmmm, that is very odd. I see from the video you are running Windows 8.1, and I actually like PeaZip a lot compared to the old compression utility that I used to use, so it is installed on my main computer now, and I unzip stuff all of the time, so we will figure it out soon! That is one of the cool things about talking to the users on here... you get to learn about all of the really cool utilities! Thanks again!

Yeah, sorry about that. But until we implement a KMD, VS will never be quite right on XP.

Cool, that should work great. I do not mean to pick on UAC, hehehe, it is just that it was never designed to be an anti-malware measure. It was actually designed to "persuade" all developers to utilize better coding practices (not that I am the authority on coding practices ;)). For example, if a developer releases some software that does not need to run as admin... then they should run their software as Invoker... and if they do not, then the user has to respond to the UAC prompt each time they open the software. It is more of a long term fix that would have been great, but never really worked out.

Either way, UAC was never designed to stop malware. So the next time you read online someone trying to provide tips about fighting malware, and the first thing they recommend is to turn UAC ON... just smile... really, that is all you can do ;).

As Krusty said, VS no longer prompts to turn UAC OFF... And ever since VS 2.0 came out (a long time ago), it has not mattered if UAC was running or not. VS 1.x did have to disable UAC because we had not yet developed the VoodooShieldService to do the admin things it needed to do. Thank you!
