What are all the settings that make Libre Office fully Microsoft Office compliant? Using office software of any kind is a weak suit of mine. I am interested in a step by step Libre Office guide that will make all Libre Office output compliant with MS Office. So all LO output can be read, edited, added to on any Computer with Microsoft Office installed & vice versa. Would these Libre Office settings be the same on Windows or Linux? A batch file that would do this would be awesome.
Well, I would like that too, but I don't know of a way to achieve full compatibility. If it could be done we could dispense with Microsoft Office, but AFAICT the various suites that can open Office files are not 100%. I'll be happy to be proven wrong about this though
I use Libre in W7. I pretty much feel the same way using Libre in my W7 as I do using Office in XP. The only things that I done is set files like XLSX and DOC to be open by default by Libres programs. And then when I create a document, I save them in Office formats, like the ones I mentioned above. I don't do complicated things with this kind of programs, for me, Libre has been a nice replacement for Office. I never had anyone whom I send a document created in Libre tell me they cant be open. There have been times when I have started a document in my W7 with Libre and finished it up in my XP with Office. And then, sent it to someone using Office. All working out fine. Bo
There is no need to change any settings. When you want to save a document select save as and choose "Microsoft Word/Excel/Powerpoint 97/2000/XP/2003". Or if you want to save them automatically in those formats go to "Settings -> Load/Save -> General" and modify the following: Document type = Text document Always save as = Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP/2003 Document type = Spreadsheet Always save as = Microsoft Excel 97/2000/XP/2003 Document type = Presentation Always save as = Microsoft PowerPoint 97/2000/XP/2003 Libreoffice settings are identical in windows, linux and mac versions. ps. Libreoffice 4.4.x and microsoft office suites have most of the time almost 100% compatibility when opening/modifying/saving document in 97/2000/XP/2003 formats (some powerpoint documents are not 100% identical but with word and excel that I work all the time I see no problems at all). You are welcome. Yes, when using Office 2007/2010/2013 formats they are displayed differently between microsoft and libre, some have minor glitches others are a total mess. It should, but I do not know how well libreoffice xmls are handled from microsoft office. (writer and calc xmls should be fine, but impress xmls usually are not rendered correctly in powerpoint). In general, I avoid editing/modifying powerpoint created files with libreoffice and vice-versa presentation created files with microsoft office. I prefer completing the document in one suite and then check if it renders correctly in the other; editing the same project/document a little in libreoffice, a little in microsoft office and so on will make you to want to throw the pc out of the window. This is what I always recommend to LibreOffice users. It's an easy fix especially for those simply emailing a document to someone.
It's more about reading the document I think. Not everyone has MS Word, especially the versions that save files in .docx format. To compound the issue, I used to use MS Works which saved files in .wps format so couldn't send those to anyone unless I saved as .doc or .rtf. Those were the days, not!
I'm not sure. It's mainly to email someone for viewing, not for editing. I rarely hear of people collaborating on a document via external email instead of a cloud host/online editor.
It's my opinion that a lot of compatibility problems are creator generated. I recently received a flier made on Word. It was a mess even in Word, so how is Writer going to make sense of it. Now it rendered just fine in Word but the layout was mishmashed together, my guess by trail and error and not using the correct tools to do it right. I find Word On-line useful in these cases or I just go back to the sender and ask for a PDF version.
