I think I know what is causing the excessive CPU usage of VS running in XP...I have rundll.exe loading at startup...Anyway to stop that?

I thought VS makes it safe for you, while you're using the browser, so I don't understand what this 'new feature' is meant to prevent. So, I don't know what I meant, I guess. ;)

P.S. What about the other message, 'Do you want to reactivate protection', that pops up after you have had VS disabled for ten minutes.

Hey Bear, sure... I have been posting our betas on our website whenever I post them on wilders.

    Here is a link...

BTW, thank you for purchasing VS... please pm me your email address and I will add a couple of years to your account since you are on wilders.

hmmmm, probably not... it is the rundll32 that is triggering it for sure, and this only applies to XP. What rundll32 do you have running on startup?

Well, there are 3 different ways (from what I remember) that VS will either activate or reactivate. When I get a chance, I will go through each on and make sure they all make sense, and I will post a brief description of each one.

    @VoodooShield ,

My main issue this time was my user experience, that is the failing of C++, the pain trying to activate and the error with WLM and my weather widget Those three things one after the other turned me off once again, so much so that I didn't persevere with VS long enough to see what else was going to bug me or not. I'm far from being a patient person these days and just want programs to work.

    Cheers,
    Dave

No patients? I thought Australians were laid back... you know, throw another shrimp on the barbie, right? ;). We initially thought VS would take 4 months or so, but it has been 4 years now... 4 years of massive obstacles and struggles, most of it on my own. So when it comes to patients, please forgive me if I cannot seem to relate ;). Every single thing that could have gone wrong went wrong, but it looks like it is going to work out in the end ;).

BTW, what weather widget do you use? I am guessing that is what was trying to grab the focus from VS. I retested WLM with your configuration and it works great.

Cool, thank you, please let me know. Also, when are you going to upgrade from XP? You do know that it is going to be 14 years old in August, right? ;).

Hehehe, what ads? No, I just know that Krusty is Austrailian because for some reason I remember the first email he sent me... it started with G'day and it cracked me up ;).

How old is your computer? Please do not tell me it is 14 years old too.

I thought Paul Hogan did some ads in America, extolling the attractions of visiting Australia. Shrimp on the barbie, being one of those attractions. :)

No, not 14 yrs old...but a custom build that was pretty expensive for me, at least at the time in 2007.

I know you have been working really hard to get VS to where it is today. Don't let me stand in your way.

"I thought Australians were laid back." I was too, but things change - perhaps a discussion for another day. ;)

"... throw another shrimp on the barbie." And we've been paying for that ad ever since. hehe. Darn Paul bloody Hogan!

The weather widget was an Aussie one but like most, it has been discontinued now and is no longer available for download. Strangely the widget worked fine with earlier builds of VS. No focus issues with earlier builds either.

I wonder if my WLM issue was caused by me eventually activating VS before Training Mode had finished? Would that have any effect? Just a thought.

Yeah, I think so but I never had the chance to see them. I see... Yeah, my main computer is getting to be pretty old too (5 years or so), but I tell you, a good custom built computer can last a long time, huh? I would upgrade it, but it still runs great.

I in no way have sympathy for you with the the whole Paul Hogan thing, hehehe. I live in Kansas... you know, Dorthy, Toto and the Wizard of Oz? ;). Although the startup community has grown quite a bit ever since google came to town. http://www.bizjournals.com/kansasci.../02/top-5-entrepreneurial-cities.html?ana=twt

It really is hard to say on the widget and WLM without testing it. VS's training mode doesn't ever really "finish", it is just a mode that allows and learns everything.

    Hey Dan,

I've just installed VS 2.73 again and so far so good!

No error from C++ 2010, no problem with WLM or my weather widget and no issue what so ever with registration. :thumb:

The only thing that's different this time around is that I've removed my wireless keyboard and am using my laptop's on board keyboard. Do you think that could be related? I have been having issues with it lately where it would miss letters that I typed. Maybe it is buggy?

Anyhow, I'll try and give VS a decent trial this time and see how things go.

PeaZip - CLI Block Notification Quirk\Bug

    VDS v. 2.73

    Windows 8.1 x86-64 (OEM) Toshiba

Here is very short video that clearly illustrates the VDS balloon commandline block notification when extracting files using PeaZip\7zip. As you will notice, despite the CLI block notification the file is indeed extracted and appears in the lower left corner of the screen.

When the user selects the VDS block notification balloon the "Block\Allow" pane does not appear. Instead, it causes the PeaZip interface to close.

    OneDrive download link: https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=2C645D108A1E40C7!4817&authkey=!AE8z4AjhhNWtC1Q&ithint=video,avi

NOTE: Format of video is Microsoft Movie 1 AVI; it is viewable using Windows Media Player, Classic Media Player or VLC Media Player. Viewing it in Internet Explorer may or may not work.

    Best Regards,

Is it possible to include a log of the full command line that is allowed\blocked - instead of the process only ?

That way user can review allowed\blocked command lines - at a later time - for whatever reason, make determination of safe\legitimate or wanted\unwanted - or - missed block notification balloon and was auto-blocked, etc. Then user can copy\paste or add any blocked to CL White List if needed\if they so choose.

In other words, a log of all blocked commandlines - and a means to add to whitelist - would be ideal.

    Taskhostex.exe Command Line - Quirk\Bug

    VDS v. 2.73

Taskhostex.exe CL still being blocked - with no complete commandline added to CL list.
