Update: Firefox Keystroke Encryption vanished again.

 

I'm getting odd encryption fly-outs in Firefox 38.0.5 when I'm not even typing, but no fly-out when I am typing?

 

Please define 'odd'.

 

It is odd that I am getting encryption fly-outs from time to time when I'm not typing. Doesn't that sound odd to you?

Edit: I'm using build 190.

 

I'm seeing the same thing on both of my Windows 7 x64 machines.

Has HMPA v2 been discontinued or what ?.. earlier you could find it on the site after some looking around but now it is totally gone . It is not that i want to download it because i know where to find it i just want to know if the product as such has stopped existing .

 

v2 has been replaced by v3. Furthermore, the CryptoGuard technology in v2 is not able to stop the current generation of crypto-ransomware. Alert 3 however is able to block the current generation of crypto-ransomware.

 

Okej , so there is no more free HMPA protection at all then ? Sometimes software is splitted in a free part and a pay d.o , no ?

Okej , thank you guys . So v3 free still gives a decent economic malware protection for free as the v2 was adverticed as in its beginning but not as good as v2 ?

 

I normally try to begin an answer to such a question with "it depends", so here we go.

It depends on what you consider 'decent economic malware protection'.
You will not have access to Exploit Mitigations, CryptoGuard, Process Protection, Active System Vaccination and HitmanPro itself.

Personally I think that CryptoGuard, Process Protection and Active System Vaccination are the most value protections in HitmanPro.Alert 3. So it is up to you to decide what you want to pay for additional malware protection. If you are already aware of many of the possible infection vectors then you might consider additional security software as redundant.

So, I you only use HMPA3's free features, and not it's exploit mitigation, combining with EMET 5.1 or older can be an option.
But if you use HMPA3's full features, including it's exploit mitigation, combining with EMET is not the best idea, I would say. Firstly, there is no need using both, and secondly, double exploit mitigation can be a recipe for potential issues.

 

The only mitigation that is available in EMET 5.2 and not in HMPA that could be a valuable addition is EAF+. All the other mitigations available in EMET are also available in HMPA.

 

Yeah, i use free version, since i'm a believer in free security solutions. I uninstalled HMPA for now, too lazy to downgrading my EMET.

 

HMPA also has IAF, Application Lockdown, Reflective DLL mitigation and Shellcode mitigation (last two are under Loadlib) which EMET has not.

I was only referring to the fact that all mitigations in EMET are also present in HitmanPro.Alert 3 and to the fact that the EAF+ mitigation present in EMET is a valuable addition against info leaks. (Although EAF+ creates a considerable slowdown of protected programs) Info leaks can be *extremely* valuable when bypassing anti-ROP mitigations. (Yes, I am aware that HMPA is much more than only Anti-ROP mitigations)

The only thing I know for sure is that CryptoGuard v2 won't protect against the latest versions of crypto-ransomware. I do not know whether you will encounter something like compatibility issues, etc.

Correct, although I didn't mention it on purpose because I don't know whether that update would be forced or would only show a pop-up.

 

Just adding to the feedback, maybe the developer can extract something useful out of it: Enforce DEP option is really messing up a lot of non-threatening stuff. I have Win 7 x64 (with regular updates) and I can't start Firefox 38, Skype 7.4 or any word document (with MS Office 2010 Plus) when I have Enforce DEP option activated. For reference, I can't even start Word after creating a blank word document (via right click), but I can create & open excel files with no issues. I also have Bitdefender Total Security 2015, MBAM Premium, MBAE, HitmanPro and Zemana Antilogger running, so I'm pretty sure there's nothing fishy lurking around in my computer that's actually trying to hack me via Firefox, Skype or Word.

P.S. I'm talking about HMPA 3.0.42, build 190
