I have been using DAEMON Tools since I can't remember.

Recently, there was a major upgrade to DAEMON Tools Lite with the release of version 10.
DAEMON Tools Lite is still free, but it is bare bones and prompts you to buy and install additional features.

And if you go with the free version, then read each screen of the installer and deselect the piggy backed crap that comes with it.

I was a Daemon tool user too before i found WinCDEmu, its like Deamon tool lite, minimal, supports BD,CD,DVD but free and open source, if you liked DTL you'll love WinCDEmu...

I was already planning to open a topic about this issue, but do you guys have any idea if I could use these apps to play FIFA 06 from the HDD, without the need of the CD ROM?

Gizmo has become my "go to " app for this sort of task.

If I had one tiny complaint , it's that the process continues running after the app is closed , at least in the free version.
It has to be manually shutdown in Task Manager.

    Hi guys!

Do the above apps have copy protection emulation like DAEMON Tools?

According to the DAEMON Tools forum, the tray icon will be back in the next minor release.

Can you perhaps describe how to do this in short?

    1. You need to create an ISO image of your game disc. You can do this with an ISO application such as UltraISO (for example).
Or, if you purchase DAEMON Tools Lite Personal for $3.99 and add Image Editor for $7.00, you can do it all from the one application.

    2. You need to select your image and choose "Mount to SCSI" using DAEMON Tools Lite 10. That is it, as the game emulations are fully automatic in version 10.
Previous versions of DAEMON Tools required you to select the copy protection type within DAEMON Tools settings, but that is NOT required with version 10. ;)

Thanks, I will check it out. The only reason why after all these years I want to try this, is because on my new system the DVD drive is often activated (starts to spin) when I browse in Win Explorer, on my old system this wasn't the case, it's a bit annoying.

Does it have copy protection emulation like DAEMON Tools?
By the way, DAEMON Tools 10 copy protection emulation is now fully automatic. It automatically detects the type of protection.

Although I don't use Gizmo, I don't think it has protection emulation. Such emulation only exists in Daemon Tools and Alchohol 120% to the best of my knowledge.

Oh yeah. I thought that DAEMON Tools was the only one, but Alchohol 120% does it too, eh?

I think so. Alcohol 120% is also awesome for archiving game CDs.

I've just had a quick look and I can't see any sign of that function .

I only have the free version , and I only downloaded it as a "stepping stone" to get ISOs mounted as virtual drives

It was bleeding edge software in the day.

Did you know there is an Alcohol Portable? It is pretty cool and free.

Has anyone used DAEMON Tools to create a hard drive backup?

Add a VHD wizard allows you to create a virtual hard disk — a virtual representation of a physical HDD.
Commonly, it is used to backup data or to host more than one operating system on a single PC.
