This is a pretty sad and unfortunate turn of events, but at the same time is not entirely surprising. Sourceforge has been going in this direction for several years now.

    Strong words of condemnation here:
and kudos to GIMP for standing their ground :thumb: and following up. It has also certainly (rightly) stirred up a hornet's nest of angry devs and others on the SourceForge blog post.

I will stay away from Sourceforge now, thanks for the tip.

I've always got GIMP (for Windows) from their official site. I hope SourceForge don't turn to the darkside lol.

    Ugh

First off, the explaination or whatever begins with Having heard from so many of you — developers, end-users, and friends — we’re taking a moment to speak about our values, practices and business model followed by "Comments are closed " although this ---> You are very welcome to join the conversation at the Source Forge Community Voice on SourceForge but no SF response to the few posters yet.

Realised I had to be careful of SF quite some time ago, but I'm still surprised by their rapid descent.

I noticed today that uBlock Origin is now blocking SourceForge via an entry on the 'uBlock filters' list. Good, I say!

    Code:
    # https://blog.l0cal.com/2015/06/02/what-happened-to-sourceforge/
    # Using `other` will cause the whole site to be blocked through strict blocking,
    # yet the site will render properly if a user still decide to go ahead.

Agreed! I'm glad to see the open source community coming together like this.

will be nice when bandwidth gets so cheap that all developers can have the downloads on their own sites.
