There is a new browser call Slimjet http://www.slimjet.com/en/ It is another Chrome clone but seems to do things differently. The problem I have having is that when I install it Avast finds a virus in it called Win32ropper. The publisher insists that it is an error on the part of Avast. I have reported it to Avast but still it finds the virus having given them time to update their database. If the publisher says it is clean, then fair enough and is up to me to trust or not, but obviously it is doing something similar to the virus and I wonder why and what it is doing. I would appreciate it if those with more knowledge than me could give an opinion please.
I took the sjtsetup_x86.exe and extracted it with 7zip, and then extracted the sjt7z_x86_console.exe. I ran a few of my own scanners, and out of all of them, Hitmanpro picked up "crash_service.exe" I think it's probably just a false positive- they happen with any antivirus out there. Only thing you can do is contact the developer (which you've done) and let them know. Then the dev probably has to try and get a hold of whoever is picking up his software and see what's up.
Crash Service is from Chromium Developer Builds, it's harmless, and this is a false positive. I used to run into this constantly when I would push dev versions for testing. Every few days another AV would pick up the new repack of it. Looks like this is a SlimBrowser Blink Fork. If they fix Chromes hideous Speed Dial, I will use it.. I am tired of Opera's inflexibility.
Thanks for all the replies. Veeshush has privately submitted it to Virus Total and only one or two reported it as a virus. When I try to install this program Avast kicks it out and later the system becomes unstable and the Win 8 blue screen appears, so I am not sure what is going on. Will leave it alone for now. I was looking for a replacement for Opera but I don't think it will at present.
Yeah, I had decided to just Private Message him about my findings instead, cause I don't really know what flies around here as far as how far you can discuss Virustotal: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/thr...otti-virus-total-results.180057/#post-1040840 Basically though, I agree with DoctorPC. I've had really bad false positives on some legit files before where just a ton of different scanners picked something up. And again, I just try to contact the devs when I can and let them sort it out.
Whitelist it. The developer also produces SlimBrowser and SlimBoat. It's a Texas company. It was running Chrome 31 when I tried it, so it's several versions behind Chrome.
I am not 100% sure either, but I believe it is OK to post an MD5 for example in certain cases like this wich one can use to make a search on VT or somewhere else.
None of the browsers based on Chrome are an option for me, because it´s not possible to put tabs on bottom.
Does Slimjet actually stays up to date with the latest current version of chrome? Also, does Slimjet "stealing your privacy" And spy on you? Like Chrome? Just trying to get a better feel for Slimjet Browser! Thanks!
You can find information about this from their FAQ page: http://www.slimjet.com/en/faq.php This is what they said: We will stay sychronized to the release schedule of Chromium with a lag of no more than three months. I believe Slimjet wouldn't send any data to Google unless you sign into your Google account to synchronize your bookmark and other data.
I just downloaded it and it's Slimjet Version 4.0.5.0 (based on Chromium 42.0.2311.90 (64-bit)) versus Chrome stable Version 42.0.2311.152 (64-bit) Which is ahead of stable so they are doing pretty well keeping up. It definitely has some functionality built in that is not in Chrome but it could just be some extensions built in. There is an option to disable WebRTC which isn't an option within Chrome or Chrome Flags but they could be using the extension which users say doesn't work anymore. I'll have to test that and see. Since killing WebRTC is a big issue for people if this is something they did themselves it would be a big deal. Seems to use less memory than Chrome under the same conditions with the same extensions. I'm impressed.
Hello AutoCascade, I would also like to know if the option to disable WebRTC actually works. Please post back with the results of your tests. I quit using Chrome because of this and it would be great if this option works. Thanks in advance...
It appears to do just that. https://diafygi.github.io/webrtc-ips/ It shows no ip address when running that check. I ran it with my extensions enabled and disabled to make sure it wasn't something from them either.
It's a shame you can't move some icons over to the right side. For example. The weather icon is great, but it doesn't belong on the left with the navigation icons. It should be over on the right with the Skype icon etc.
I agree with you I like the home page, back/forth and reload there but not the other buttons though I must admit some of those buttons are nice as are some of the options in settings. I had the weather button on but it seemed too busy. I'm betting based on what they've done it wouldn't be a big deal to allow for the user to set each individual button left or right of the omnibox. I don't see an option to show the full url, it only does that for https url's.
Hello, It has passed testing on my system. It appears to actually be disabling WebRTC instead of only blocking it... I just installed Slimjet here and it is displaying the full URL in the address bar by default. So far I am really liking Slimjet as a replacement for Chrome (I had quit using Chrome due to the WebRTC issues)... Edited to add: Correction: It show the "https://" on https sites but goes not show "http://" on regular http sites, but except for that prefix, the entire URL is shown... Example on this page: For https: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/new-browser-slimjet.364347/ For regular http: www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/new-browser-slimjet.364347/
For Info : Taking from the FAQ : Q: What is the difference between Slimjet, SlimBrowser and SlimBoat? They are all web browser products from FlashPeak Inc but they are based on different engines. Slimjet is based on Blink engine (the engine behind Chrome from Google). SlimBrowser is based on Trident engine (the engine behind Internet Explorer from Microsoft). SlimBoat is based on the Qt-port of Webkit engine. The three browsers have a similar set of features. Slimjet is the most robust and stable of the three and is most suitable for people who prefer a simple and clean user interface. SlimBrowser is suitable for people who prefer an advanced user interface with as many options as possible. SlimBoat has the smallest memory footprint and run across multiple platforms but might have compatibility issues with a few web sites due to the QtWebkit engine. Slimjet is our top recommendation for Windows users. http://www.slimjet.com/en/ http://www.slimbrowser.net/en/ https://www.slimboat.com/en/ Make your choice Rules.
Does Slimjet update automatically? One of the pains with SlimBoat and SlimBrowser was that I had to download each new version myself.
