I got much the same updates as Daveski. I hid Silverlight (don't have it installed), I hid MSE (don't have it and don't want it), I hid the Malicious software removal tool ( I've read that it can delete stuff without asking first !)
I will put the others on hold for a couple of weeks and see how things panout - or not !

Updated yesterday on Win 8.1, got 15 critical updates, installed fine, no problems or issues. Fairly boring actually... but good, nevertheless. :)

KB 976932... seen posts about this KB from 2010, so it's an old one. Seriously, fresh install of W7HP with SP1... why need another SP1?

Asking Microsoft, it takes you to the official SP1 download... eg: the massive 537mb version. Hang on, why was Windows Update version only 9mb? ... and remained 9mb no matter if I installed yesterday or 5 months ago... (quick search reveals people asking questions about this KB from 2010...)

EDIT: on my side, the KB cannot be uninstalled. One would have to start from the ground up to get away from this KB. Some forum posts say that it is a beta update.

i have the strong suspicion that last Win Update has set my UAC back to default (always, keep it maxed-out). That is on a clean image (W7USP1x86), always light-virtualized (TTF), except when updating.

Can someone check his/her UAC settings, please?

    I checked my Windows 7 x64 SP1 system.
UAC setting is still at maximum, "Always notify".

I see that those who chose to install the last installment of updates one by one had no problems , so I deselected all the updates except for KB3049563. It downloaded and the install started and finished with the message 'not needed'. This was followed by the notification balloon that 'new updates are available" and there it was listed again. I had rebooted prior to starting up todays session so I knew there was nothing in the hopper, but I chose a complete shutdown as opposed to a restart. MS started 'updating my computer ' with the usual do not turn off your computer message. That completed then another screen 'windows updating your computer', followed by the usual Windows reboot, After windows started there was a flurry of messages 'aplying 97xx files' before it completed the startup process. Once Windows was up I noticed that KB3049563 was installed successfully and no longer in the list of new updates.

Me thinks the WU engine was having a bad day!.

I allowed all Essential and Important updates to be installed (among which five that were "Optional" before and later marked "Important").
The only ones that I did not install were the optional updates for Skype and Silverlight (as Skype and Silverlight are not installed on my Windows 7 x64 system), and I didn't install KB3022345, which is still Optional.
If next month KB3022345 changes from Optional to Important, I might allow it to install, as well.

What puzzles me, is that i haven't installed any new software, i'm the only computer user and i have execution control in place. I guess i 'll have to restore a previous image and re-update my system, just to see if UAC setting changes again.

    Thanks again.

Here's a fix for KB3022345. No need to uninstall this KB if you run this fix. I just ran it myself on WIN 7 SP1 Home Premium x64 and worked like a charm:

    http://thetechcookbook.com/windows-7-update-kb3022345-causing-corrupt-files/

Warning: This fix only applicable if only the two corrupt files mentioned are found on the original SFC /scannow run. Also follow all instructions exactly as given.

Still, what is the compelling argument for installing such a problem kb. Such a known problem.
Such a pita known problem. Such a persistent pita known problem kb.

This is why the auto updates in Win 10 home version are scary, you will have no way to not install the patches & will be effectively beta testers for business versions. Thankfully I have a spare Windows 8 pro x64 licence that should give me Win10 Pro x64 that gives a bit more control over what gets installed. Considering just how many dud fixes MS has issued over the past couple of years mandatory updates is a silly way to go. I mean they wouldn't give the OS away free & then charge for support & fixes when they bork it with updates would they.....

Thanks... good info. CB v CBB

Well, as the updates will be focused to the new platform. Hopefully, it'll be okay.

"Windows 10 Home users won't have the option of delaying or deferring anything. And for many consumers, that will be OK, if not welcome."

A welcome simplification, for me. If there are problems with the updates, MS should correct them. I don“t want to have to worry about these things.
