I researched every recent "Important" non-security update available (when I use Microsoft Update) for Win 7 x64. All of these are checked by default (i.e. not optional) except for KB3021917. Here's my plan: KB3035583 (hide) KB2952664 (hide) KB3021917 (hide) KB3013531 (hide) KB2990214 (install) KB3022345 (hide) KB3020369 (install) KB3020370 (install) KB3045645 (install)
No, not an in-place upgrade. If you're wondering why I plan to install KB2990214, it's because of this, and also because the file changes listed at KB2990214 all seem to be strictly Windows Update-related.

I did the Win 7 x64 updates that were mentioned in post #13 as follows: 1. KB2990214 alone (to test the new Windows Update client without waiting until next month's updates) 2. the other updates 3. In elevated command prompt, ran sfc /scannow to check for corruption. None was found.
